Why do Dyson hoovers cost so much?

As i've said before my mother in law (rearrange the letters and you get "woman hitler") does house cleaning, one of her clients is a designer for Dyson, he told her never to buy a Dyson as they are rubbish!!

However saying that we have two Miele's an upright downstairs and a cylindrical upstairs, how posh is that? we've got an upstairs!!  , however we also have three cats and three dogs, all of which are malting  , so partly because the Miele weighs so much also the fur fills the bags up very quickly, for ease of use and just to get the majority of the fur we are going to get a battery operated Dyson

Our other half bought a Dyson many years ago. I wasn't over-impressed with the great heavy brute (the Dyson, not the other half    ) which was too big to go into places were the old Hoover Junior had fitted with ease. A few years later, when the old Aquavac packed up, she got a Henry as well. She hardly ever bothers with the Dyson now. She uses Henry for everything. Well, almost everything.

I'll concede that the Dyson does better on carpets but that's about all. The hose is almost useless because, like all such collapsible hoses, it's constantly trying to pull itself back in.   They certainly do lose suction (at least our model does) and I had a hell of a job finding out why. I checked out all the airways (of which there are many) looking for blockages and cleaned the filter too. I even removed the filter but the damn thing still wouldn't suck properly.

Why, because some evil little sh*t of a designer had hidden an extra filter under the cylinder.   The average user who doesn't fix linear accelerators for a living would never have found it. As it was, I almost had to break its plastic cover to get the thing out.   Filter cleaned (or did I just leave it out) - suction restored. :) :) :) But why was it so well hidden? There's only one possible answer; it's a scam to rake in cash from totally unnecessary service charges - and all the reason I need to never buy a Dyson again.

Dysons are a fascinating case study into the stupidity and gullibility of the consumer.

They have to be expensive, otherwise nobody would believe they were any good and in any case nobody wants to be seen with a cheap appliance in their house.

Human nature LOVES things that give the maximum result for the least effort, which is why Dysons are designed so that you can see the dust they collect. A Henry collects dust far more efficiently but you just don't see it.

Dysons look like an abortion in an injection-moulding factory but because they are made in fancy colours and they look complicated and high-tech a lot of idiots buy them thinking they must be better.

...and of course Dyson can afford to spend lots of lolly on fancy advertising, thus adding more value and justifying higher prices, etc, etc.

They weigh a ton, they're noisy, over-complicated, need emptying often and my local appliance repair shop is full of broken Dysons from wall to wall. Never seen a Henry in there though.

Dyson made a good move moving to the far east.
Labour denied the company room to expand here in the UK which would have created more jobs so he just gave them the kick in the teeth they needed.
Its a typical british success story imo let down as usual by muppets in government.

You are suggesting that there were no empty factories in the UK, or that Labour politicians stood in front of the gates of all of them?

Or he started production in Malaysia, paying the workforce peanuts, and putting even more money in his pockets.

Completely agree. Anyone who's been sold the Dyson dream, could come to their senses and get something similar from Electrolux.

Then spend the £300    they have saved on something that isn't hidden away for 99% of it's life in the broom cupboard. The neighbours will never know.

I'm interested in the Dyson dc34, something light, battery opperated, to hoover up the animal fur, has anyone got any other similar styles they can recomend??

My dyson does not last long, 6 years old and near pack up cos of stupid overheat limit switch kicking in premature. I get about 10 minutes hoovering before cutting out, and yes, no blockage, filter brand new, even the one on motor.

Even thinking about hacking it to remove limit switch.....

Got myself a Henry, free from work.

Dan.

I have had a few hoovers in my time but IMO if you like good suction Dyson is the best! Mine is quite old now but still gives the suction I require.

biggest waste of £275 i ever spent ...load of old rubbish which i bought when we moved house Dc 25 model, has broken down more often than Jack Wilshere

The people who we bought the house off left an ancient Miele hoover which works a damn sight better than this purple monstrosity
