Should the UK population be allowed guns if they want them?

You can get a gun if you want one, Joe so that is not the question - it's more a) what kind of gun you can have - handguns back, semi automatics etc.
b) should we be able to buy them in Aldi rather than go thru existing regs

At the moment you can get shotguns and rifles with relative ease . If you need more than those two to defend yourself then I think your are probably fecked at that stage anyway!

Edit - tas for 'UK ' the regs are different in NI, not sure about Scot

Where's mine then? Where's yours?

My brother has a few shotguns lying around, if you want to borrow one. 12 bore Remington, and a 20 bore BSA if my memory serves me.

Not too difficult to get a licence for yourself Joe, unless you have a lot of previous. Had one myself some years ago, but let it lapse.

I used to be in favour of legalising firearms for the general public, at least so long as they are kept inside the home, but now I think there's a better solution to the problem of violent crime.

If anyone is found on the streets in possession of a gun or a knife, they should be shot (or hanged, I don't care which). No excuses. There is absolutely no need for anyone to carry a gun or a knife in public.

(Yes, you might argue that you've just bought a carving knife from Tescos. No, the only way to do this legally would be to have it delivered to your door.)

Here in NI you won't get a gun that easily.
If your a farmer or landowner you need two other land owners to sign the firearms application form giving you permission to shoot on their lands.

If you have no lands then you must join a gun club. And the gun must be used almost every week with the gun club signing you in.
The police then actively check these records.
If your not using it, then you lose it.

Sinn Fein got the legislation regarding guns tightened up in order to remove the number of guns in protestant hands.

The Americans are buying guns by the millions at the moment.
As Piers Morgan wants their second amendment scrapped.

Oh, and what gives the delivery driver the right to carry a knife?

Should the populous be armed to protect themselves from the rampaging gangs? (It will happen).

As the people making up these "rampaging gangs" are themselves part of the populous it would mean they too would be armed.

That's fine while we are paying them.

Income tax collected = £155 billion.

Benefits paid out = £201 billion.

Interest on national debt. = £42 billion.

You do the sums mate.

are vat
duty on petrol and spirits
national insurance
death duty
inheritance tax
stamp duty
insurance tax
road tax
council tax collections
commercial rates collections
and other taxes and fees levied on services that go to the exchequer included in your sums

No, but neither is the £100 billion NHS bill or education or defence etc.

The bottom line is that the benefits bandwagon is sending the country bust - and we've passed the tipping point. Like the Titanic sinking, it isn't a case of if - just when.

I'm sure they will. Starvation is a mighty persuasive reason to steal.

Take a look at the way Greece and Cyprus are going. It's only just begun.
Yeah i think i'll do that Joe rather than take any notice of a doom and gloom merchant on an internet forum.
I'll keep my eye on all the riots, death and shooting in Ireland too.

You just aren't getting it are you? These are tiny economies that can be bailed out - the UK is too big to bail out.

When the money runs out then the Police force will grind to a halt.

Joe-90 is never wrong. ;)

I think it's just as well we don't have guns otherwise I might be doing a life stretch for my old neighbour with the giant stereo ;)

What if your moving house? Need a stanley knife to work? Want to dispose of it? Etc etc

Adding guns onto our streets would be a bad move.

We have lots of issues, I don't think the gun/knife area is policed too badly tbh.

Was doing some target practise with the kids today. :D (alright it's an air rifle!)

He would carry ID showing the need to carry these whilst delivering.

If you need a knife for your work, you would carry ID explaining the need.

If you are moving house, you notify the police and provide evidence of your move, dates, etc.

If you wish to dispose of a knife (or firearm), you notify the police who will collect it.

I'm sure someone will be along soon with a scenario that I cannot explain an answer for!

Knives.
Saws.
Dogs.
Shaving razors.
Meat skewers.
Garden shears.

All currently legitimate, but by your logic, should need a pile of paperwork, and State permission to carry them.

I'd rather take my chances as we are now, than live in your "utopia".
