I was considering Intergas for a boiler replacement but I think I’ll have to give them a miss.

I'm thinking of replacing my boiler this year as my old one is getting on a bit. I’ve heard Intergas mentioned on here a few times (only four moving parts etc) so I looked them up. I only need a heat-only boiler as I had my system converted to a sealed one with an unvented hot water cylinder only last year. On the Intergas site, their heat only boilers state that they are for open vented systems so I emailed them asking if they were suitable for a sealed system like mine and if not, what boiler in their range would be suitable. I emailed them once on March 13th and again a week ago. They haven’t replied.

You have to wonder when a company fails to respond to a sales request from a potential customer what their customer service would be like if you had a problem with their product.

As Duncan Bannatyne says, “For that reason, I’m oot!”

Join the club. though my questions were technical relating to how they calculated the effeciency values they use in their publicity.

When I put in my new Worcester boiler it's because I like worcestershire sauce. That's as technical as I was prepared to be.

Motman a couple of questions for you.

Will you be carrying out the installation work your self.

Does you existing boiler have a built in pump.

What make/model is your existing boiler

I was recommended Vaillant. But then another gas man said Ideal as they copied Vaillant design and give better warranty and are cheaper. But then Ideal are seen as the devil by some?

Or is it just swings and roundabouts?

Personally I would pay extra for a reliable boiler, efficiency is less of a concern for me.

The Intergas Rapid comes set for use as a combi. However, if you change the settings, it can also work as a heat only, system or multipoint water heater. Will definitely be ok on sealed system. I've got an old Vaillant Turbomax, but will be having Intergas when it is time for replacement. Vaillant boilers aren't what they were. Also be careful with Ideals. The cheaper Logic has an aluminium heat exchanger, which is prone to early failure. Better to go for the Vogue with Stainless steel. Other bits soon fail on them, especially cracked condensate traps. The Intergas range have never had a main heat exchanger failure and the Rapids are cheaper than rubbish Ideals.

And wocester Bosch?

Just playing devils advocate - don't the higher end Ideal now come with a 7 or 10 yr warranty as long as you have it serviced annually?

Although that may give you a negative impression, maybe they are set up to deal mostly through their dealer network rather with the end user. I'd be tempted to ring them up and ask to speak to technical and see if they are helpful.

A poor response to a sales query may not give a true impression of their response to installers and after sales service.

Do customers actually work out the cost of the boiler over the lifetime or just see the initial sticker price and that's it.

Expensive and full of plastic, but not too bad reliability wise. I believe the service backup is one of the best.Yes, some Ideals come with long warranties and you will need them. System water must be as clean as a nun's knickers, because they often test the water to wriggle out of claims.

Worcester 30 kw Greenstar will be over £1100. Intergas Rapid 32 kw is less than £700. Big difference.

Good advice re Water. Does the Intergas come with extended warranty?

Absolutely not! I’ll get some quotes from gas safe fitters/companies.

No pump fitted in boiler - remote from boiler and not that old.

It’s a 26 year old Potterton Profile 60e.
