24 Dec - update - Grundfos pump still runs constantly

They'll be back....but 29 visits is the record for one of my customers (I'm just used as a last resort).
10 visits is only the start...trust me.
They need to forget the zone valves...

Noooooooo!!! I’m really really hoping and praying that the 10th visit from BG was the final one. I’ve no desire to beat your customers record of 29 visits!

Thank you Gasguru and Polesapart. The live 240v feed was coming from the orange wire on the Drayton heating zone actuator (it’s the 3rd new one that has been fitted last week). You are right - they are two port. The engineer stripped the actuator down to see if the orange and grey were stuck together. So, he’s just replaced the whole actuator - it’s the fourth new one now. I’ll come back with an update in due course...

Another drayton ? Perhaps time to try a Honeywell, as you know the definition of insanity ?

Have you had a new pump yet , or problems start with new pump.
I had a job where the grindfos pump was taking out programmers for fun.
Causing contacts to weld shut or fail.

Hi
No, no new pump, the Grundfos pump runs fine (just runs constantly with a live feed from somewhere).

There was a batch of Grunfos pumps that was causing problems with controls. The pump appears to work ok , but does cause damage.
Can you post a pic or model number of your pump?

Hi
Thank you so much for your message.
I’ve attached a pic (I’m at work at present so could take another when I get home). It was installed in approx July 2008 when the house was built.

S plans are quite easy to fault find , but it does sound like something is what I call “eating parts”.

If the circuits all test ok , I would fit a new pump and see how you go.

Each of the new Drayton actuators came with their own black cable attached to the unit
your right, but what I think is there might be a fault in the cable or one of the cables that feeds to the boiler and pump, switch live is traceable on site in fault condition with a multimeter.

It could be , why are the zone valves being changed? Are the switch contacts shorted?
How often do these faults happen?

If all you have is thermostats (room and cylinder) and zone valves, and perhaps a simple programmer, it sounds to me it could be sorted by a competent electrician. The fact that the wiring relates to a heating system is irrelevant, so BG can't bring anything to it (as they've shown). Even if you have things like smart TRVs, or a more sophisticated programmer it shouldn't be too hard.
If you're definitely getting constant 240 volt at the pump, and it seems you are, I can't see how changing the pump will cure it.

drayton valves are well know to fail on the switches, creating a constant live to orange after satisfied something to do with a plastic arm breaking.
but would not of thought new ones would fail so early, so only thing I can think of is a break down in one of the cables.
