Moving the main supply cable

But seriously:

Im currently with British Gas for my supply so do I need to contact them or who if not please?
You need to contact the DNO ( Distribution Network Operator ) for your area

http://www.energynetworks.org/info/faqs/electricity-distribution-map.html

British Gas sell you electricity, the DNO bring it to your house
Western Power and they want a grand + Vat!!! Daylight robbery
You can't have got a proper quote from them.

Cant see why they would want to install a new cable though, are they not flexible to some degree?
Moving old cables has a significant risk of the cable failing internally and causing a rather large explosion and fire.
Cutting an old cable while it's in a fixed position can be done in a carefully controlled way and is far safer.

I thought electricians moved ply backer boards all the time
No.

Mine did last month anyway.
Totally irresponsible, they evidently have no regard for their own safety or that of anyone else.

You will not get a quote without you giving full details of what is required and even then the final cost will depend on how the job is actually done.

The procedure for my new supply ( 2011 ) was an estimated price ( circa £ 3000 ) which I paid and then the surveyor arrived to firm up the details for the work crew and he saw a way to "save a few pennies" This resulted in a refund of £ 2100 This saving was achieved by changing the location of the connection from under my driveway to the grass verge next to the drive way

The price was from their online service and was £995 + vat. However, I will ring them today to check it. I'm south west and no idea what flavour the cable is I'm afraid

I suspect because he's not sure he jumped through all the hoops - pm's have always been problematic, and send an image in a pm may be very hard to evaluate the success of. I'm not sure I'd be confident.
