A lot of people will stop paying bills.
from what i was reading on the BBC, there was talk that there was civil unrest brewing in Italy, people are losing patience with their government, unable to buy food, continued lock down, people running out of money etc.

Just driving through a local town to collect food earlier and never seen it so deserted.
I think people are heeding the advice.

Interesting to see that even in 2015 (after the Ebola crisis) people knew what the problems were, and what needed to be done.

Nobody seems to have done anything (except Trump, who sacked the US "head of pandemics" and closed down the department*).

If the Chinese stopped bats excreting onto god-knows-what creatures below, and then people eating them, the likelihood of "the next pandemic" would be much reduced, would it not?

Walked around my area at 8pm last night for half an hour. Saw more foxes than people. The area by the pubs and shops was more like 4 am on a Wednesday morning than 8pm Saturday night.

What is the point of either of those statistics?

Statistic 1. Is helpful for when people say that 'that Boris is doing a terrible job handling this coronavirus crisis' you have an immediate reference point to show that half the population disagree with you..

Statistic 2. Is helpful for when people say the 'Boris is a crap leader', you have an immediate reference point illustrating that he's possibly one of the most popular leaders of the last 50 years.

so having front line staff at the NHS without vital equipment is doing ok? seriously?

That's ok as all down to logistics which essentially means gov is not entirely sure where they are.

From the same link

"The young are much more critical of the Government on coronavirus. Overall, 49 per cent think it has been handled well but this plunges to 28 per cent of 18- to 34-year-olds."

There is a well known fact about young people, they do, eventually, grow up.

From the people who have a bit more experience of it, same link again

Only 34 per cent of Londoners think the PM has handled the virus situation well, compared with 47 per cent of Great Britain as a whole.

;) Probably got good support from cornwall.

its down to being unprepared, there are no excuses, the government is to blame for the deaths their incompetence has caused...
the editor of the very well respected Lancet says....

"The NHS could have prevented “chaos and panic” had the system not been left wholly unprepared for the pandemic, the editor of a British medical journal has said.
Numerous warnings were issued but these were not heeded, Richard Horton wrote in the Lancet. He cited an example from his journal on 20 January, pointing to a global epidemic: “Preparedness plans should be readied for deployment at short notice, including securing supply chains of pharmaceuticals, personal protective equipment, hospital supplies and the necessary human resources to deal with the consequences of a global outbreak of this magnitude.”
