Government Advice about Return of Schools

That is precisely what I'll be doing with the majority of my grant money - giving it back.

My Taxes are counted for so I'll put the money into having an extension on the back. Thus will put money back into the building industry...

Much needed I think.

I wonder what will happen to the building trade going forward. I'm more than happy to do 3 or 4 days a week as I inch toward retirement. All my work is 'private customers', many of whom are retired or of independent means so I don't envisage a lack of work for myself.

Noseall's work seems to largely consist of extensions for the Professional classes or people of independent means so he'll be ok.

It's housebuilding on a large scale that I see grinding to a halt, building sites. With mass unemployment the market for new homes will dry up. There's probably never been a stronger need for the Govt to embark on large scale building of social housing, much like we did after the 2nd world unpleasantness.

I hope I'll be OK but you have to think all these unemployed will then be our competition... The customer will get a cheaper job will come hand in hand with a shodier job. But by the the horse would have bolted and money gone....

My BIL has a senior position in the Salvation army -he says they already have some small scale projects that are social housing but use the big house building companies to construct. So I think you could be spot on.

this country has a huge crisis in housing -many of those suffering in work poverty are due to rent eating up their income.

I imagine your customers wont be affected by this crisis, so you may see pent up demand rather than a lack of enquiries.
I remember back to the financial crisis -I never noticed any difference to the level of enquiries. Most of my repeat customers were builders doing high end work on period properties, they were always busy.

When the building industry takes a slump the rest of the country follows.. If we can keep it afloat then maybe there's hope.

The building industry funds the tory party, hence why the logical thing of allowing councils to build social housing for affordable rent has been and will be prevented.

Some people think things will change after the virus, but it won't.

The vested interests won't allow it, and they've made sure enough of the electorate are too dumbed down to make change happen even if they demand it!

How many council houses did the last Labour Govt build?

misleading -because most of Labours social housing was housing association.

"Between 1997 and 2010, some 350,000 housing association dwellings were built. If we look at both housing association homes and council houses, Labour built more affordable properties in 2009 than the Conservatives did in each year between 1987 and 1990."

the furlough scheme is flawed because prevented part time working so some businesses closed rather than had a few staff in to help to change things around to make it possible for their working environment to allow social distancing.

What?

It looks like you were trying to say something interesting there Comrade Notch but I couldn't make any sense of it! Take your time; read what you're written and try a bit of punctuation. This is the Internet, not a telegram.

Must try harder.

Lol, lmao and rotfl!

How does that sit with your anti-British and anti-Christian attitudes? I bet there are some interesting conversations.
