I recently purchased a laser level - awesome purchase! I am often putting chair, books and whatever else underneath it to get to the right height.

I’ve been thinking of buying a tripod but is a floor to height “pole” the ultimate solution?

If yes, can I please have some recommendations. Thanks in advance.

TBH there is no ultimate solution. Tripods don't go low enough or high enough for many situations (e.g. electrical outlet centres, plate shelf top line, etc). They are also a considerable trip risk. Floor to ceiling poles seem a good idea until you work in a room with a very high ceiling (e.g. a 20ft high stairwell) or in a room with a suspended (removeable tile) ceiling. Wall brackets are all very well, but they mark the walls (so you need filler and a bit of paint to cover up) and if they don't have a fine adjuster it can be a problem setting them exactly. Your ultimate solution therefore depends on what sort of things you are doing with your laser. My most used solution at the moment happens to be a piece of metal framing track and a couple of screws - but then I am working in an unfinished building. I suspect the ultimate solution would involve the same technology as they use for Bart Simpson's hover boots

All of my uses thusfar have been around the home: living room, kitchen and bedrooms.

I appreciate some of the limitations you have cited but in my circumstances, is there anything that the Tripod can do and the pole is unable to to?

I tend to be using lasers in my work environment and whilst I own neither a tripod nor a pole, I manage. The only "stand" I use is a Bosch BM-1 bracket left over from an earlier laser I still own. I don't normally find problems with the need to fill small holes (and that includes work at home) as I often find alternatives to use such a fridge doors and washing machine sudes (magnetic steel), metal (steel) shelf brackets and uprights (including using steel book ends set on kitchen cupboard shelves) etc. So the bracket isn't much needed

Does the magnetic bracket that comes with this level really attach to corners of walls that have a corner beading (plastered over). That's what I have been reading online...

I now have proper tripod and sectional floor to ceiling pole which will break down to fit in window or door opening...the camera tripod was handy as the tilt platform could be used for inclines like stair hand rails

My dewalt laser level doesn’t do diagonal lines.
Will I find that I need to buy a tripod at a later date if I buy a pole now? From what I can see and understand, the pole should cover my bases.

Also, which pole did you buy?

I find a pole will do more than a tripod inside....

Edit: The only reason for buying that particular model was it cost me a fiver at a car boot sale..brand new:)

I prefer screw together sections rather that telescopic with friction locks as they can sometimes jam if over tightened.

Theres a stanley one at toolstation for £46

The Bosch one had a larger pad that rests against the ceiling. I thought that may offer more stability?

Whenever I have used one, not very often, I clamped it to the door frame for correct height.

Bosch mounts can simply be hung like a picture.
Using a nail or screw. And the rotary knob gives about 100mm of fine height adjustment.
I have this one...
