An Essential Service??

I read yesterday of the police fining some bloke who travelled to collect a new bumper for his car. He argued that it was essential car safety maintenance, but the police said it was a non essential cosmetic item.

DIY sheds are open and you can certainly buy a new pot plant if you like.
Ah now here they appeared to use the legislation against him.

It is not the item that is essential it is the business that qualifies as essential. I personally think a bumper is essential as its function is beyond cosmetic. It protect property and reduces injury to pedestrians if its fitted to any car under 10-15 years old. However, purchasing the item from a private seller is not within the listed exemptions. Though plod need to be reminded it is not considered an exhaustive list.

The legislation is actually a proper mess. They didn't re-invoke the https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/regulation/9/made law, which everyone understood (but was repealed in the summer) they amended the tier restrictions placing all of England in to Tier 4 and enhancing the restrictions for Tier 4

So Schedule 3A applies:

Whatever you decide, do not accept this as normality.
It is not normal to be confined at home and be scared of being outside in case the cops treat you like a criminal.
Being stopped for being outside your home is not a crime (normally), so do not make a habit of it.
Please!

And don't accept it as a challenge to be a smartarse and thinking up poxy excuses to be out spreading or catching a virus when you don't need to be.

Are you in scotland then ?
I am and have decided that if I don't go and collect my order I will neither pass the virus on or get it passed on to me. The diy job I had in mind is now on the back burner.

Isn't Scotland the place where you were allowed to holiday abroad but were not allowed to go to the airport?

The day anyone will be able to stop me from going about my business I will kill myself.
I am not a criminal and will not be locked at house arrest for a virus so deadly that doesn't give any symptoms in the majority of cases.
And I am in the most at risk category.
I have to die one day and surely I will not die alone locked in my house.
You do as you're told, trust me, it's for your own good (and keeps the roads traffic free for me).

Does that include breaking all laws you don't happen to agree with?

You can go out, and you can go about your business as long as its within the law.

No, it wasn’t B&Q!
I can’t speak for others but I hate to admit that what I thought were simple complaints have in the past ended up with one I was complaining about being demoted from financial advisor to teller, another losing his job and in the past 6 years, 2 giving up their profession entirely. Regarding the present post, I did not state the name of the firm because I didn’t want to see the agent in particular be reprimanded when they were only trying to help.

Then clearly they weren't very good at their job and you did other people a favour by saving them getting bad advice

Why on earth would a company trawl this forum then goto the hassle of digging through their records to find out who you are (which I doubt they could given they don't know your name) then finding out the name of the advisor , then reprimanding her for giving you correct advice , not only that she suggested a way for you to make you feel better about getting what you feel is a non essential click and collect

How's your eyesight?

We all now know the modern way to test eyesight is a nice long drive.
My friend came from Southampton yesterday to test his eyesight and incidentally met me on the bike.
He happened to have a bike in his car, so followed me around.
Finding that his eyesight was good to drive, he went to see his mum, a lonely 93 year old lady.
I totally disapproved of this because imagine if she caught the virus and died!
Better to be alone in a bungalow, not seeing your kids and hope to last long enough to see them one last time...
Terrible!

Is it illegal to be in a public place?
Come on, I'm fishing...

But kills thousands and leaves many with long term illness
