1.2m are the ones they know about.
That's 1.2m in the queue at the doctors, taking up a hospital place, taking a vaccine, taking up a school desk, taking up a council home, taking up every benefit they can, taking up money out of everyone's pension pot. And having not contributed one damn penny. FFS.
Pretty sure none of that is possible without being documented, and therefore, legal.
People can just roll up in the UK and take their kids to the local school and start using the GP, and claiming benefits, there's a lot of forms to fill before you get anywhere, and the forms ask for proof you have residence here.

dare say it’s an under estimate
probably more
It seems that this was the upper end of an estimate made by a non-government (Pre, a
Washington-based research group) body a few years ago, before Brexit. Basically, a figure for the number of Europeans that might be here, and now might be illegal, if they haven't done their paperwork. Not quite the same as people sneaking in on boats - who cannot claim
anything at all.
The Beeb explain it well:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-50420307
"it (UK) has no means of knowing for sure whether someone has left for another country or died."
So many of these illegal immigrants might have simply gone home, or died, but we are still counting them.
1.2 million people, that would suggest that for every 50 homes, one of them is full of illegal immigrants.
I'm not saying some are not here, but these huge figures just don't add up.
