Double fees for wealthy in NHS Scotland

From talking to people (much older than me!) locally, if you want a new hip or knee, about the only viable option is to get it done privately

Her core support is in Dumbdee and Glesgaestan so, why not give them independunce and let the rest of the country live in peace.
It seems to be the way, if you ever see a car going about with stickers in the back window supporting the snp, look in the front window and you will see a blue badge :censored:

So as well as paying more tax and NI than everyone else, the wealthy are now going to have to pay extra for NHS treatment.

My guess is that people affected would try to move south.
Ok forget that the article says discussed not implemented. The whole NHS in the UK is having problems or haven't you noticed.

And there’s usually a couple of spoon burners inside.

I would've thought that the 'wealthy' already have private health insurance.

I can't see them putting up with a health service that's not fit for purpose.
I have done work for a millionaire for many years, he was always singing the praises of his private cover until he started getting old and have more problems, he is in the local NHS hospital now being treated for a heart attack

I think she does.
Jeremy Vine is talking about it as I type. Maybe it will be mentioned.
Ok, then she must be afraid of having a debate about raising taxes to fund the Scottish nhs.

Blup

As I understand it

Talk of this making people pay in Scotland was just some thing that was thrown into the conversation / discussion

Don’t see any thing wrong in broaching the subject ??

Same as may be they should have a discussion about not encouraging people to stop smoking ?
Smokers generally die earlier so saving the state money ??

Yes, @motorbiking link actually says "discuss" but he wants to make out it has actually been made a law.

Surely he knows what "discuss" means?

I made no such representation. Today it's discussed, tomorrow it's a proposal.

Sturgeon definitely very recently and the Tory have said several times free at the point of service. Our wonderful NHS etc.It will remain as it is. :( Underfunded in a number of ways and suffering even more due more recent events. However it was ideal for handling that event. Lot less trouble than say the mayor of New York had.

Dentists used to be free. An example of what can happen if that sort of service starts charging. The queues for a checkup vaporised as soon as a charge was made. The NHS contract keeps getting revised always to save money so dentists do what they have been doing for a long time now. My dentist reckons that recent changes halved her salary from NHS work. She believed in doing it. Now if I want more expensive work the options can be rather strange and cost 100's. Some people who I do know can't afford it and go for the cheap option - extract it. If they eventually need a partial plate there is no cheap option. It's a few hundred quid.

One pundit made an interesting point. Can't run UK services on USA tax rates. The NHS is one of them. Some peoples attitude about their payments in that direction is that it goes into a black hole and it will be spent what ever amount they get. These nuts haven't had need of it yet and probably assume the NI covers it. It doesn't. The bulk comes out of general taxation. May mentioned the need for a ring fenced health budget. In an ideal world that would mean a new tax being introduced. In theory income tax could be reduced.
