Dover. It's what we wanted.

It doesn’t matter. Everything needs to be value engineered, unless that result increases loss of life or causes other critical issues.

You don’t design things for peak capacity if they will spend much of their time significantly below capacity. Stuff sitting idle costs money. Delays can be economically acceptable and you can introduce unsustainable temporary measures based on the fact they are temporary.

Value engineering asks if the capacity is worth it. The answer may be - no.

you mean David Davis?

I don't think Nadine Dorries was up for job. Or Truss.

Bit confused as to how people can afford to go on holiday in Brexit Britain. Told here on a daily basis how rough we're havin it.

But we're rip off Britain. Going abroad, even allowing for paying to travel there, is often cheaper than staying in sunny Blighty. I had a week on the lash in Krakow earlier in the year. Around the same time some people in my local went to Edinburgh for a long weekend. Their shorter break cost almost 3 times what I spent for a week, doing similar things, ie. drinking, eating out, drinking, sights, drinking, etc, etc. And I bet the beer (quite a lot of it was Czech) was a lot better in Krakow than in Scotland.

But then again, plenty still going away in UK. On Thursday afternoon, I was passing junction 17 of the M5 and the lemmings were stationary going southbound. Will they ever learn?

(As I'm typing this, there's an ad for Bentleys at the top of the page, so someone's still got some moolah. Though I would be surprised if us on here are really their target market. I'll be sticking with the Scudo for a bit longer.)

It would be unwise to build capacity for peaks that only occur a few times a year.
Nonsense.

Have you never seen an overspill car park?

Have you never been to an airport and the queues are limited to a few security check points in off peak with loads of spare scanners?

Have you ever seen a flood defence mechanism at a dam?

Have you never seen idle/spare tills at supermarkets in the wee hours?

Have you never seen empty seats at stadiums during lesser matches?

These booths don't need to be manned. They can sit idle and cost nothing. Crap suggestion. (n)

Where do they get the occasional staff from to man them at busy times? Job centre? Facebook? Pick them up from outside B&Q like builders do? Do they need to pass scrutiny or have any training?

It's like people who vote to make travel and trade with our neighbours slower, more difficult, and more costly, and then complain that travel and trade with our neighbours become slower, more difficult, and more costly.

It's what you wanted, dummy.

"Not our fault" say Brexers.

Gosh, hadn't thought of that. Perhaps, they'll look at the calendar next time and pre-empt when and where people are needed and book them in advance...? A bit like what they did to resolve the Easter Brexit port shortage fook-up where they got the staff (eventually) but in advance. It's not difficult Mottie.

So, you do't think someone in a port booth will need training and checking out for the couple of extra days a year they’ll need them for? Where did you say they would get them from again? Oh, no, you didn’t, did you.

Can you point me to some posts made by Brexers that at are complaining that trade with our neighbours has become slower, more difficult and more costly?

I’ve looked but I can’t see any, idiot.

It's standard shift pattern planning. No leave is approved and overtime is available for those who want it. Plus other staff who are trained but do other jobs can backfill.

And you know this for a fact? If so, how? We are talking about French border force staff, aren’t we?

Airports queues are not manned by the foreign staff from the countries that people are travelling to. The booths at Dover are manned by the French.
