Well it makes sense to me, if I can end my life before I need care (assuming im able to and have still got capacity) my family get my money
That’s what they did to my mum.
I took my dad in to visit her in hospital, we were taken to one side by the ward Dr and a nurse, who then said: “your wife is close to the end of her life, it’s best we stop feeding her (she was fed by tube).
Although my mum was half paralysed by a severe stroke, she was able to chat pretty well with my Dad, pretty normally really, so you can imagine how devastated my Dad was being told that news. My Dad said to them “I don’t think I want that”, so instead they withheld oxygen when she returned to the care home and she died within days. I could accepted that my mum was near the end of her life but her death was totally engineered with no consultation whatsoever.
There are so many horrible stories about the Liverpool pathway it’s gives me the creeps hearing the phrase.
What has that got to do with the local council 'assessing your finances'? How does the local council end up with the money?
It's almost like you are suggesting that old people should kill themselves so that their offspring (whether they are despised by the parent or not) get their parents' money, rather than spend it elsewhere?
If you've watched someone die with something like Motor Neuron Disease, where the mind is sharp but the body fails a little more ever day, trapping them until eventually they drown on their own saliva, then you understand the need.

When mother died, she was in ICU hooked up to ventilators, drips etc, doc told me she was near the end, I said she did not want prolonging, we went home and returned later, all tubes & drips were removed, pretty sure she had a shot of morphine, died peacefully
It is more likely to end up paying private companies to provide care, either in a residential setting or carers in your own home. Either way, some people would prefer to die beforehand and leave that money to their kids.

I've watched both my parents suffer and both have said at some point I've had enough I just want to go now, I don't care about their money I want them comfortable and with their dignity.

Could that be unnecessary pressure. "I'm not too keen on dying, but I'll do it for the kids"?
Or I don't fancy going into a home, people feeding me and taking me to the toilet, I'll go now thanks, as I have no quality of life?

Like I said, I have thought about a lot, but haven't come down one way or the other. I'm really unsure what's best.
