I bet most of that cost goes to recruitment agencies, private businesses, probably owned by Tory MPsWe spend £133,000 a day on interpreters for foreigners using the NHS. We must be mad, literally mad.

Still no answer as to how they are chosen and how they physically get here.
Then if they can do it for them (consider their claim before they leave France), why can’t they do it for others and save people from risking their lives?I think they come on normal airlines like Air France.
No idea how they are chosen.

The penny has dropped. I have said for a long time, more safe routes and offshore processing. Great idea. Then if they can do it for them (consider their claim before they leave France), why can’t they do it for others and save people from risking their lives?
On Notch's comment about the cost of interpreters...I heard that the interpreter scam is causing British patients to be put to the back of the queue in hospitals. Managers have all the foreign patients seen early in the day so that the interpreters don't go into overtime, at whatever scandalous rate that is paid at.
And that includes many for who interpreters have been arranged for. I believe the interpreters cost around £300 a time whether the patient attends or not.,…Mrs Mottie and her fellow transcribers are forever typing DNA (Did Not Attend) letters for consultants along the lines of: Mr Zokowoski was unable to attend as he was at home in Poland…. That is a VERY common occurrence.
It’s funny how the right always moan about money spent on poor people. On Notch's comment about the cost of interpreters...I heard that the interpreter scam is causing British patients to be put to the back of the queue in hospitals. Brexit cost around £100bAnd that includes many for who interpreters have been arranged for. I believe the interpreters cost around £300 a time whether the patient attends or not.,

It’s not a waste. You should know, you voted for it, didn’t you?Brexit cost around £100b
Mottie doesn’t care about that colossal waste of money

I think what he is saying is that non English speakers are prioritised to reduce interpreting costs. Are you trying to imply the NHS didn’t use interpreters during Tory govt?
Are you saying there won’t be interpreters if there was a Reform govt?
Poor Spline is just a stooge for Daily Mail headlines
VOTE LABOUR FOR EVER!

Mrs Mottie is constantly surprised when people who have been living in the country for 10, 15, 20 years or more need an interpreter when they see a consultant.I think what he is saying is that non English speakers are prioritised to reduce interpreting costs.
If I was living in another country and needed free medical care but didn’t speak the language, I’d expect to pay for the cost of an interpreter.

Hallelujah! The message might be getting through. Then if they can do it for them (consider their claim before they leave France), why can’t they do it for others and save people from risking their lives?
