No that is untrue, the Police didn't go around beating up people because they were Irish.
The IRA and their political wing were engaged in a terrorist campaign against the British state and its population.
This behaviour led to the inevitable rise of anti Irish sentiment and the prospect public anger being directed at people who were perceived to be supporters of the atrocities of the IRA.
Given the level of provocation from the IRA and its supporters the British response was quite restrained.

There was an expectation that the police would find the bombers, so they set off to find some Irish men that fitted the bill. The police and the I RA were winners, the 6 and the 4 weren’t.

Bit of an understatement, there was an intense anger and demand for justice at the atrocities, the Police were angry as well and probably convinced themselves that their suspects were guilty.

They are simply doing a job that they are paid to do, you don't like that job, well that isn't their problem it is yours. You will find that if you don't drive your car at them and endanger their lives then they will leave you alone. Don't cry when things turn nasty from your own doing. It is a very simple concept and one that the loonies find hard to accept, there will be more shootings if you have this idea that you can do and act as you like.
