...until now.

The world’s largest island sits in the Arctic Circle and is strategically and economically valuable.

According to the Carnegie Endowment, China views the Arctic as a future transport and industrial corridor. A number of Chinese companies also have mining projects in Greenland, including for iron ore, rare earths and uranium. China also has projects focused on Arctic energy via Russia’s LNG sector. Chinese state-owned firms have stakes in Novatek’s LNG projects and are a major buyer of Arctic gas. The Chinese have also supplied key equipment to Russia’s Arctic LNG projects, especially after Western sanctions on Russia.

However; despite the hyperbole around Trump's 'deal' the Uncle Sam has had an agreement with Denmark since 1951 that permits some of what the new deal would likely include. That defense agreement allows the Pentagon to establish bases and send as many troops as it needs to the island after Copenhagen approves — which it has almost always done.

Politico tells how 'it’s not clear how NATO’s role would really shift. The alliance’s military chief said he only found out about the talks from news reports.' “A lot of it is old wine in a new bottle,” said Jim Townsend, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense for NATO and Europe. “At all of our bases around the world, we negotiate sovereignty. It’s not something that we’re getting uniquely free from Greenland.”

A very informative thread too

It looks such a diffrent world from above.

The compromise I think Trump will back down to is a bigger military presence of US hardware, technically and feet.

He pushes hard then rolls over to have his belly tickled but gets what he wanted.

Everyone then thinks its a win win.

USA already has those rights since 1951.
