Happy Easter everyone

But the fact is I don't believe the stories in the bible. But I don't think it was ever intended to be believed literally, it should have been a book of stories that illustrate how to live a decent life.
Correct.
The Bible was written for people of gone days, in order for them to get a moral out of it.
People taking the bible literally don't understand Christianity.
The vast majority of Christians in the UK don't go into a church over Easter. Let alone the majority of the country.
Where do you get this rubbish from?
Do you have statistics?
Have you ever been to a church on Easter Sunday?

My issue with christianity goes further than not taking the bible literally. I like the well-meaning teachings but don't believe in there being a supernatural being of any kind.

I couldn't go to church and listen to or agree with someone telling me god thinks this or that, or that I should pray to someone or something.

Humanism is probably my kind of thing...

But, given a choice between trusting the average non-believer or a christian, I'd choose the christian without a doubt.

Muslims and Jews are taught that non-believers of their thing are dirt and don't matter, which is very dangerous and accounts for lots of problems in the world.

In 2023, the Church of England recorded 938,000 worshippers at Easter,
The CoE make up about 12-15% of the UK, that's about 8-10 million.

Less than 10-14% attendance.*

What proportion of Christians do you think attend Easter services?

*Corrected stats slightly.

In contrast nearly all Muslims, 3-4 million of them observe Ramadan, and that's a lot harder than Googling your local churches location and heading in for an hour and a half service.

To be fair, there was a slight increase in 2025...

I believe it's called the 'yaxley-lennon right wing racist' effect...

But the church will take any nutjob it can get...

It is by default an entry requirement ;)

If you're referring to recent reports then youGov screwed up and they had to retract them.

It is just as likely to be due to the Pray to Stay scams by the usual suspects

Says the bloke suddenly taking an interest in religion and broadcasting it (moaning) on a public forum.

Righto boyo, lol.
Whether my interest in religion is long-standing or sudden is, again, none of your business.

I slightly disagree with some of that. I know from the experience of friends who married Israeli girls, it wasn't easy and their was some rejection on the part of the parents but considering them as 'dirt' might be going a bit far. Yes, they had to convert to Judaism but did so willingly and were accepted into the family, it shouldn't have to be that way but c'est la vie.

I was raised as a Catholic but walked away from it in my teens, my first marriage was in a church to keep mum happy. I've only ever attended churches in the intervening years to attend weddings or funerals, why wouldn't I if that's what other people want to do.

One thing I will say. The Ten Commandments are a fairly sound guide to living a decent life, I score about 7/10.

I don't believe in God, but sometimes, just a few times in my lifetime, things have happened and I can't help feeling that there is some kind of higher power at work, watching over me. It might be b*******s but who cares?
