I’m wanting to use an old hole in the wall that originally had a sky cable running through it.

Id like to put an outside plug so I can power
Some garden lights.. I was thinking of using an outside power box running the cable through the wall into the house and then wiring this end to an RCD plug and using a plug in the house for power.

Few questions

1. is this safe?

2. If so what size cable should I use?

Anything else I should be aware of ?

Thanks
Tom

Yeah of course I do. I Just thought it might have needed 1. Does it need to be outdoor cable ?

Yeah of course I do [have RCDs]

Then you don’t need an additional one.

Does it need to be outdoor cable ?

If the outdoor socket is mounted directly over the hole, no. If the cable needs to run along the wall from the hole to the socket, then it needs to be suitable cable (i.e. UV-resistant), or protected in conduit.

The issue you will have is that the cable also needs to be suitable for connecting to a plug at the inside end. Tough outdoor cable is likely to be too fat. Your options include (1) not using a plug, but connecting to an FCU inside, (2) having a junction to a different sort of cable where the cable passes through the wall, or (3) using indoor cable and protecting it in conduit outside.
