Water leak on incoming mains from water meter to inside property?

Hi

I have leak that is 'bubbling' up on my property near the edge of my extension.

I have contacted Welsh Water amd they have stated it is my problem to repair.

Their stop cock/isolator is 4m away in the outside lane.
I have failed to find an internal form of isolation....

How do I proceed here.

If I dig it up and it's old metal pipe is it worth doing a repair.

Obviously I would like t replace it with proper MDPE from their meter/isolator to mine inside.
( I can easily add one if i can't find one)

Never had this before and I dread what Welsh water would charge even if I expose the whole pipework.

Any ideas.

Dig it up first and see what you are faced with. Might be repairable, might not be worth it.

Yep - if you are handy and don't mind the trench work then time to dig down at the location. Even then though, it may be time to replace the whole thing, if it's gone at one place then it may go again later down the line somewhere else.

No problem digging it up as it's only a short distance but if it's rotten steel or whatever they used to use then is a repair with it?

I'd love to take it back to the meter and replace it all the tbh but obviously the meter is their property.

Could do as that is theirs but it depends how accessible it is.

Maybe not, but could be something simpler, you never know.

OP,
Clean out the debris from the external isolator chamber and gently operate the actual shut-off valve - open and close etc.
If it doesn't isolate the water at the bubbling leak then the valve needs replacing by the water utility.
Looking down at the shut-off outlet (service pipe) will tell you what material the service pipe is.
Given the short pipe run then figure on replacing the service pipe anyway, dont attempt any kind of repair.
I can help you to DIY a replacement if you wanted?
Maybe you would want to run the new pipe in a different direction to enter the property at a place of your choosing?

I assume you`ve no meter? If that`s the case could request one. It will come with a isolating valve and you can the shut it off an connect a complete new pipe.

I have not checked to see what pipe is coming out of meter as u say it's full of debris.

The leak is definitely my problem/side and near the house external wall.

I have access to a large sds/pick/mattock etc.

It's just the actual time to do it t tbh.

I've asked a several local plumbers and they won't touch it and if I search then it's a leak specialist located miles away from me.

How could you help mate.

Going to disc out/breaker a hole in the slab and dig down to find the leak.
Looking to do it Thursday after work.

Find a friendly chap from Welsh water and ask him if he's interested in a private job

Just look out for their vans or whoever does their subbie work.
