Getting into lanes at traffic lights

Does this sound correct?

I was positioned on the xyz road waiting at the lights, when mr abc opted to squeeze passed on the inside hoping to create a lane to allow him to turn left. Unfortunately, there was insufficient space and as we both moved forward our cars collided. I was already occupying the only lane marked turn left or straight ahead.

We have a bit in my town where there's a two lane smaller roundabout, however it then leads in just a relatively short distance to a three lane junction at a larger roundabout. The three lanes are 'turn left' then 'turn left or straight on' then 'turn right'. When it's busier it can be a bit of a free for all as folk wanting to go straight ahead merge from both lanes when coming from the smaller roundabout into the middle lane of the larger roundabout.
