Doesn't bother me at all seeing armed police now, was a bit daunting at first. I suppose it is just a case of getting used to seeing police carrying guns. Are all the police in the states armed?

Maybe so, but so are some criminals in this country. So can terrorists. So are many upstanding citizens.
Does it bother you if the police carry guns in the UK to protect themselves, to protect the UKs interests and to protect innocent members of the public?
If an unarmed policeman/woman is confronted by someone with a gun, what chance do they stand? What are they going to do, shout drop the gun or I'll hit you with my truncheon?

Good point Spark123, but I remember having long discussions about the same topic in the very early 1950's when two policemen were shot (one died) while trying to apprehend two would-be burglars (Craig and Bentley).
