I've just had my gas meter moved (by 1 metre) by British Gas prior to the kitchen being refitted.
Kitchen now done and ive just had the gas appaliances checked and the engineer checking these has stated that the gas meter does not comply with the regulations. In that the original connection to the steel barrel pipe should have been extended using steel barrel to the meters new position and not run in copper as is the case!

Does this length of copper pipe between the steel barrel and the meter contravene the regulations?

No it doesn't, as long as it is joined properly to the steel and adequately supported, your kitchen fitter is talking mince

As far as I know as long as the pipes and fittings used are suitable ng2 (natural gas) and supported correctly then it shouldn't be an issue
