Hi all.
I just bought a new switch to replace our kitchen diner, it currently has a 2 gang switch which controls the kitchen and dining area separately.

So I bought a new 2 gang switch to replace but it is different. I currently have:
Earth x 1
L1 x 2
Common x 2
So a pair of L1 and common per switch.

My new light switch has
Neutral x 1
Live IN x1
Out x 2

So not sure how this will work, an I overthinking and simple as joining the 2 together or is this light switch not going to work?

Appreciate any advice.

You don't appear to have neutral at your switch, so its not going to work.

As mentioned above, this switch will not work with the wiring you have. Also it will not physically fit into the existing back box.

There is a neutral on both switches.

If its not going to work do you know what I need to search for when looking for a switch please?
I bought a extension plate as I knew it wouldn't fit.

Thanks both.

No there isn’t. Just because a wire is blue it doesn’t mean it is a neutral.

Any normal 2 gang switch should be fine.

There are No neutrals at your existing switches. The blue ,with brown sleeves ,are switched lives.

The point is that a wi-fi switch is going to need a power supply to work and you don't have one without adding one into your wall (very messy). If you think blue means neutral, ask yourself what happens if the switch connects live to neutral when you close the switch.

This is what happens when you have 2 kids running riot.
I never meant Neutral...I meant to write earth! Sorry guys complete idiot moment as didn't realise when responding either and wrote neutral again.

Thing is I don't want nor need a normal 2 gang, I need a WiFi switch compatible with Alexa as the switch is actually being hidden. Thus access to it after will be limited.
And yeah I'm not adding an additional power or anything, looking for a straight swap ideally.

There isn't one.
Wifi switches require permanent power - line and neutral.
Your wiring has no neutral.

If it's existing location is to become inaccessible, the switch and wiring needs to be relocated.
Well I've found that it seems Energenie do ones that don't require neutral or constant power, but do require a seperate hub. So that seems like a potential option, even though you are stating no options available. Although again happy to be proved wrong as I'm not an expert thus asking here.

I said the access will be limited, not inaccessible and this not seeing why I have to move the switch location...if I was doing that I may as well just switch over to 3 wire lines as probably similar amount of work.

There may be another option. But it depends..

Are both lights on the same circuit? That is, are they both isolated by the same circuit breaker/fuse etc in your consumer unit/fuse box.

Are the light fittings in either the kitchen or diner easily accessible? That is, are they a conventional ceiling rose or a type that you can access the wiring.

Do the cables from the switch go direct to the light fittings? That is, that they don't go to hidden away junction boxes.

I'm at work early so won't be able to follow this up until late tomorrow. Oh, and do you have any blue sleeving?

Hey Mikeyd,

Same circuit? Yes
Ceiling rose? No...about 18 LED downlighters.
Junction boxes? No idea they were fitted new with my kitchen 2 years ago.

Guessing you were going to potentially say about running a neutral? Won't work I guess!

Annoying, my other option is just getting one that works on a remote and not smart enabled I guess and wall mounting the remote somewhere more accessible.
