Does anyone remember the economy tests BL did with a Monty Perkins Diesel at 30mph?
Most car users pay income tax, vat, council tax. These taxes are not the same as as road tax .Had some MAMIL spouting that he paid road tax on his car so he shouldn't have to pay for his push bike. In that case, I have paid for my car so I shouldn't have to pay for my motorbike (if I still had one).Cyclists do pay tax - they pay income tax, VAT, council tax and various other taxes which are no different from road tax as they all disappear into the same black hole.
I have actually done that test in the past, 5 mile flattish road that I regularly travel on, used cruise control and calculated fuel used at 5mph increments between 35 and 60. There was no surprises, 35 used the least 60 used the most. The one interesting finding that I did note was being in the correct gear was very important, for instance being in lower gear even when engine rpm seemed a little high produced better results (but that is just an engine design issue)Biggest bollocx on this thread.
Driving at 30mph uses a lot more fuel than 50mph for example.
If you ever get in a car, look out for mpg instant reading and ask the driver to go at 20, then 30, then 40 and then 50mph.
You'll be surprised.
Also, as Audi has been mentioned, some of their big engines, especially the V6 use less fuel at 70mph than 50mph.
It is not a road tax, it is a tax purely on pollution, the less polluting the less you have to pay, with electric cars, horses, bicycles and shanks pony you do not have to pay anything. How many years have you been in lockdown???
Nowadays as soon as road tax expires you get a penalty and if your car is parked at the registered address, a clamp with £1000 release fee.
To avoid road tax you would need to drive someone else's car but they'll be fined, or a sorn car which will alert the anpr of the first police car you cross.
What about pre 1980 cars ? Surely they create a lot of pollution , but pay no road tax.It is not a road tax, it is a tax purely on pollution, the less polluting the less you have to pay, with electric cars, horses, bicycles and shanks pony you do not have to pay anything.
Negligible as there are so few of them on the roads and do so few miles. I'm all for taxing them but it doesn't seem to be worth the time and effort. What about pre 1980 cars ? Surely they create a lot of pollution , but pay no road tax.
Agreed. And life in general. The biggest irritation with driving on busier roads these days is various types of selfish pigs.
VED, vehicle excise duty, isn't nearly enough to pay for the road network. It's estimated at around £6.5 billion last year. Expenditure was around £8.5 billion (here)Most car users pay income tax, vat, council tax. Does the whole country want more bicycles on the road? But It'd reduce the amount of people cycling which is the opposite of what the country as a whole want.
You're in the (fairly large) minority thenDoes the whole country want more bicycles on the road?
Make me a -1
Nevertheless, a majority of Britons (69%) – across all age groups – want the government to try to get more people on bikes.

not true.Yes...by you...speed limits are for safety not fuel economy

Which according to Brexit rules means you need to shut up and accept it ( ).
If we look at the amount of pollution across the total life of a car, much of it is in the production. This makes car scrappage scheme the biggest green-washed red herring about. There's only one thing more polluting than driving about in a car - and that is scrapping it to buy another.
