What have you been doing today?

You're welcome to it. Hate the thought of being a guinea pig at my age but would have done stuff like this when I was younger, (and more resilient to germs!)

Just made my first ever ciabatta loaf so I can make bruschetta to use up home grown toms. While in a baking mood, had a go at making a focaccia, topped with peppers, onions, red pesto, olives etc.

Needed to do something chill after complaining!

After yesterday’s fiasco, I repaired the floors, refitted carpets and removed all tools from the house. All quiet on the Western front so far!

I followed John Kirkwoods video on making ciabatta last year - it came out amazing.

It's ever so tricky to handle, very high hydration.

That looks good! Yeah, it's well sticky and I had a bit of trouble getting it out of the glass dish I baked it in. ha ha. Still, nice and crispy crust and it tasted nice, unlike the focaccia. I don't really like rosemary, I should've kept it out of the recipe. Other half enjoyed it but I lobbed mine in the bin :) :)

Had a haircut and my nostrils waxed

Nice to see you posting Tony.
Word of warning. Nasal hairs are there for a reason. They help stop germs and bacteria getting to your lungs and, believe it or not, they help to warm p the air you breathe in so you don't get cold air into your lungs.

Today my wife and I signed up for gym membership. No I am not lifting weights, running a marathon or rowing for Oxford in the boat race. It's the cheapest way to go swimming and I need to get in training to see if I can regain my NPLQ, (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification), which I let lapse many years ago. Aspirations to re-locate departments at some time in the future and move over to the STSP, (Sub Tropical Swimming Pool). Set myself the target of being able to complete the tasks in the allotted times by the end of October before taking the the course for the exam.

Yep, I was all due to sign up in March. Used to swim for West Ham 50 years ago - don’t think I’ll get my old speed and stamina back though! Again, was going to join, like you, for the swimming. Of course, the ‘rona put paid to that. Don’t know if I’m brave enough to go near a pool/fitness centre yet though.

Swimming pools are about the safest place you could get at the moment. Place is full of chlorine or bromine chemicals so not much chance of catching a lot of things. The one we have enrolled with have a time limit of 90 minutes from entry to exit. Before the next batch are let in they spend at least half an hour sanitising the gym equipment, changing rooms and shower facilities etc. Members are limited to no more than 15 in the pool and regarding the exercise gym every other piece of equipment is barriered off so you are not next to someone. You have to take your own towels and are not allowed to wipe the equipment down with them. If you want to wipe anything they have provided wipes and sanitiser sprays. Wear a mask when entering and you can either keep it on while exercising or remove it once you are not in close proximity to someone outside your bubble, (your bubble is close family only, not friends). They seem to be on the ball there so quite happy to pay £25 month with, basically, unlimited access to all facilities but have to pre-book first.
Last time I competitively swam was for my school, again, about 50 years ago and certainly a lot less stamina these days but can get myself or someone else out of trouble if needed.

Just got back from the dentists £286.35 lighter. Root canal treatment. What a palava - he had to gown up, put a surgeons hat on, then a proper top of the range breathing mask (which he said always gives him a headache) and visor. I had to have some rubber gag type of thing stuffed in my mouth with only the tooth being worked on popping through. He told me he had gone down 22.5mm! He was telling me that after he had finished with me, the room has to be left for an hour for all the dust and vapour to settle before having a deep clean for the next patient. Already paid £60 so far for a temporary filling and the root must now be left to settle before the temporary filling can be removed and replaced with a proper one. Probably won’t see much change out of two hundred for that. Still, better than losing it I suppose.
