    Washing Machine problem

Hi all, our washing machine was making an odd noise which was assumed to be a coin or screw or something but then there was a burning smell and the circuit breaker tripped. I've taken the rear panel off and it looks like the live, neutral and earth wires have burnt out. If there was a bad...

    WiFi thing

Hi there. Can anyone recommend a simple device that would work as a WiFi access point but also has a "through" function for ethernet? Basically I have an rj45 socket behind the smart TV and I'd like to add a wap but keep the TV's wired connection. Hope that makes sense

    Engine not revving

Hi, I've got a 2007 Peugeot Boxer. Occasionally, and usually in 3rd gear, the motor won't rev up and the van won't accelerate with the accelerator fully down. If I put the clutch in then the motor will rev up. If I drop in to 2nd then it seems to rev up ok then I can usually go back in to 3rd...

    Macerator

What happens if you flush a macerator during a power cut. I fitted one for someone who told me that the macerator was leaking but it turns out he flushed during a power cut. Obviously it wouldn't do what its meant to do but would it overflow somehow? I'd have thought the bowl would just...

    Cast Iron Radiators

I have a client who's house froze up during the cold spell here and her radiators have popped. As some of them were quite old and nice we're wondering if its possible to take them apart to remove the broken segments and then reassemble. Does anyone have any views on this or experience of...

    Washing machine motor

Hi, I'd like to use a washing machine motor to make a sanding machine. I got the motor from an old machine but I expected there to be just two terminals but there are six. Do I just connect the two that go to the brushes? Thanks in advance.

    4 wire actuators

Hi, I'm installing the actuators for my ufh. Two of the four wires are for a switched live to a pump or whatever. Would the switched live "wait" until the valves are fully open? As the actuators take 2 to 3 minutes to open the valves the pump would be circulating while the valves are closed.

    Underfloor pump and mixer valve.

Whats the best way to install the components? I'm thinking 1. Pump on flow from thermal store 2. Bypass valve from flow to return 3. Thermostatic mixer valve blending in the return from the ufh. 4. Manifold Some people seem to have the pump after the mixer valve. 1. Mixer valve 2...

    Boiler pressure rising

We had an engineer out looking at our boiler two days ago. I phoned before hand and said I think theres a problem with the heat exchanger, he came over and saw that the hot water wasn't heating up enough etc and agreed. Anyway, next time the boiler fired up for heating the pressure rose up to 3...

Any tips for laying a hopscotch tile pattern? The tiles are 45x45 and 30x30. Should I mark out some parallel lines 15cm apart?

    Tie rods

I need to fit one. I've done a few but they've all been in two parts with turnbuckles connecting them. Apart from transporting a seven metre rod is there any reason it can't just be in one piece? I'm sure I can get as much torque on the nuts as with the turnbuckle. If its in one peice I can...

    Car radio

Why can't I get a car stereo working. It wouldn't light up when I try to connect it. There are three wires hanging out the slot, a thick white, a thin white and a yellow. I think the thick white is the neutral/earth. When I put my multimeter over the earth and either of the wires I think are the...

    Central heating pump

Hi, I had a seized pump which I have taken apart, cleaned up and managed to unseize it with WD40. My question is should I oil or grease any of it when I reassemble it.

    Mapei

Does anyone know if Mapei Kerafluid HPR is ok to use on a screed with underfloor heating? I have the chance of getting a load for cheap but can't find any info that says one way or another. Its a anhydrite screed that will be primed beforehand.

    Framing Nailer

Any thoughts on what to get? Second hand paslode, at least £200?, Axminster pneumatic, £130ish, Ebay "rockworth" pneumatic, £65. Ebay SIP pneumatic, £80ish. For a bit of roofing, stud work and such. I've got a good compressor so thats not an issue.

    Tiling on anhydrite screed.

Would PVA work to prime an anhydrite screed before tiling on it or does it have to be a specialist ie expensive primer? It will be in dry rooms so water messing with the PVA will not be an issue. The screed will be sanded etc by the installers.

    Concrete or screed floor?

Hi, I've got a shed with a beaten earth floor about 4metres by 4 metres. I want to use it as a workshop so want a better floor put in. I know in an ideal world I'd put in 100mm of concrete but I'd have to mix it all by hand and am a bit old and tired. Any easier alternatives like a thinner slab...

    Heating controls.

Hi. I'm trying to plan out the heating for my next house. There will be a wood boiler heating a thermal store which will feed some underfloor heating and a couple of zones of radiators. My plan is that there will be a mixing valve getting water to the right temperature for the three circuits of...
