I have noticed some condensation in my loft space. Its the far end by the outside wall.
It seems to only affect one side of the loft.
The roof looks in reasonable condition. My best guess is it is not leaking.
There is an old chimney on that side which was capped off inside the loft space...
Hey all, hoping someone can help advise me on this.
I rent an old terraced property that is in disrepair. When I first signed the lease it I naïvely thought I'd caught a lucky break of sorts, which obviously turned out too good to be true. I knew there were issues, but not to the extent that...
So I posted this question on this forum a few months ago but it still has not been fixed.
There’s been a sound coming from my boiler which is apparently not fixable. I have been told by a plumber that it is due to condensation from the cold weather? sounds like bs, but is it correct? I’m not...
hello
we have a musty smell behind dish washer when its raining. its a 70s semi (ex council ) stone walls no insulation . new kitchen put in by past owner a few years ago what is the best course of action?
we did bring a damp guy a we had a wet wall in the hallway and he diagnosed condensation...
We have a steel-framed, lean-to extension with a Metrotile (lightweight steel framed) roof. The extension is about 3 years old.
There is a damp patch above our UPVC patio doors in the extension. It's been gradually building over months and months, no obvious drip/leak as such.
I've had a...
I have a 5 meter by 2.5 meter concrete plinth in the garden, it has a polythene membrane beneath the concrete. On one half of this is a kit built summerhouse constructed from 28mm t&g with a 19mm t&g floor. Attached to this on the other half of the plinth is a lean-to shed constructed from 19mm...
Hi
My small porch is getting badly condensated. I was curious to know why and noticed that the soffits had no air vents. I removed the soffits to see what the insulation was like and found very thin insulation sheets (about 50-100mm thick), but also noticed that the insulation is on top of a...
I have a small kitchen (2.0m x 3.9m) with a low (2.1m) ceiling.
I am going to have a new kitchen fitted and plan to do a lot of the prep work myself. The current ceiling is plasterboard and is badly marked and as I want the spot light in new positions I need to replace it.
I wondered if there...
As the title, we have moved to a house, like the wood frames.
The double glazed units seem ok (1 or 2 need replacing), if a little thin compared to modern ones.
We are getting lots and lots of condensation, pools of it on the windows.
(See the photos)
Would you put Trickle vents in?
If so is...
On fitting a new rad in the hall for my daughter I found that the floor joists had gone rotten so I started to replace but noticed that the floor of the void which was covered in mud was quite damp. The void is about 4' to 5' deep at that point which is considerably lower than the side driveway...
Is it possible to buy a closed coupled toilet with an insulated cistern? I would like to prevent condensation on the cistern in the colder months.
I am aware of suggestions to insulate them yourself with polystyrene, but apparently this only lasts a few years (and probably less if I attempt the...
I'm social housing tenant and I had a survey from a company called Airtech as we have condensation on the bedroom windows.
Recommendations were to change fans in bathroom and kitchen to ones with a humidistat, and install passive air vents in the 2 bedrooms.
The housing emailed me with the...
Hi,
I'm planning on insulating a 'single brick' wall in my house. I plan to attach a vapour sheet, wood batten on top and then fix Celotex PL4060 on top. The plasterer will then skim the plasterboard face.
Do I need to notify the council before doing this work. The guy at reading council...
Hi, my house is 1900 Victoria terrace with a ground floor passage ginnel on one side.
I have a tiny single brick room on the second floor. The brick is old stock I think and is very soft. The mortar is lime and the original plaster was lime. Someone has skimmed over the plaster with a cement...
We’ve been working to insulate the eaves / void area of my semi detached 1970s dormer. The area won’t be used for storage so I’m insulating the dwarf/stud wall and 1st floor/ground floor ceiling (rather than the rafters).
The wall is foil faced plasterboard on 75mm studs. I understand that the...
My wife and I recently moved into a grade II listed cottage, which has timber casement windows, with secondary glazing attached to each glass pane internally. When we moved in, the majority of the windows had been neglected for 15-20 years - all mouldy and black. I have recently embarked on a...
A local builder has installed insulation into the sloping ceilings of the top floor of our house. The old ceilings have been removed, and Recticel Eurothane installed between the rafters to within 25mm or less (at the edges, less where underlay sags) of the roofing felt. There is then insulation...
Good afternoon everyone!
I am a first time buyer and just received the home-buyer report, and there is a section in it that makes me a little worried. To paraphrase, the felt in the area above the recently refitted bathroom is ripped. There is no dampness present at the time of the survey, but...
Happy New Year everyone.
Hoping some damp experts out there can help me out with this one.
My property has damp under my bay window. My first thought was condensation, as it is probably the coldest wall in the room, the heating has been on a lot over winter and there is usually a sofa in the bay...
Hi all,
I've just done my first flat roof and I've left noggins to pick up the Fascia's where the joists run parallel to the wall. The joists overhang at the front also for the fascia. The brickwork is two course higher on the outside so I could have a smaller fascia board by the time the warm...
