Hello
is there a rule for the maximum thickness of screed i should use?
My garage conversion has around 20cm concrete. I am going to put 100mm PIR insulation on top of the DPM. how thick can i apply the screed? 50mm?
So did a loft conversion and the builder did the staircase in the way they think it should be done - assuming all carpets in the house, except I’ve stated it clearly that we intend to get wood flooring in the loft.
So the issue is they made the top stair step flush with the subfloor, rather...
Hi,
I know this not very likely, but I was wondering if anyone might know where I could buy some laminate flooring exactly like this:

My mother has this flooring in her kitchen (bought from B&Q...
Hi,
Will be taking up my floorboards in an upstairs bathroom and fitting caberflooring of which needs to be screeded to be made level as it's about 11mm out. I've bought Mapei Ultraplan 3240 Self-Levelling Compound 25kg...
Hope this is the right forum category for this, apologies if not.
Long story short... we had a shelving unit pushed up against a wall in the living room of the house, it's been there between one and two years. Moved it away recently and found a damp patch on the carpet around 1.5 ft long by 1...
Am having a hip to gable loft conversion done hopefully this Summer. I've heard in some quarters that the eves cupboard storage space should not be insulated and boarded up in order to allow flow of air. Yet many people apparently have this done, either to avoid drafts, heat loss, or for...
Hello everyone. Happy friday.
I am looking for advice on how to finish this strip between two exposed floorboard rooms…
There used to be a raised tradition strip that was a trip hazard. I would ideally like to keep the new transition level with the floor.
I was thinking to trim the edges of...
I have recently purchased a house with an old extension, leading up to the extension the floor is suspended and the back 2 metre of the house is concrete. The concrete seems dry with no signs of damp and previously they had T&G chipboard screwed directly to the the concrete with laminate on top...
The day after I stopped to "relax" for Xmas , our converted outhouse/office water pipe burst
Thus, xmas was a chaos of ripping up the flooring and borrowing heaters and dehumidifers and running to and fro to the tip.
The chipboard floor was sodden, and the mineral wool insulation...
Hi all,
I’m looking to get my carpets changed as cheaply as possible. This is purely because where I’m staying is a short term solution however the carpets desperately need to be changed because firstly they STINK and secondly it’s a very old fashioned and busy pattern.
Anyway, my max budget is...
Hi there, I'm laying a solid herringbone floor and have reached a tricky area - the base of the stairs.
We are thinking about undercutting the stair stringers, newel post and riser by 6-8mm to allow for an expansion gap, so that when completed, the wood floor will look like it neatly touches...
Hi all
I recently moved in to a new house.
Before laying carpets i tried very hard to stop the chipboard flooring from creacking when you walk over it. Itspretty load everywhere!
First I pulled up all the nails (long process) and replace with flooring screws, this stopped some of the really...
Hello, I'm planning to lay Karndean Korlok in my flat. I've removed my old engineered wood floor. Underneath that I have a 6mm black rubber Tredaire underlay for acoustic insulation. Do I have to remove it before laying the Karndean? Their instructions say their flooring needs no underlay, but...
Hi I'm looking into flooring my loft and looking for a bit of advice on how people with a bit more knowledge think I should go with it. I did some measurements and drew up a plan of what's there already. It's an old style house, built around 1969.
The dark grey part is the hatch. The...
Hello fellow DIYer's. I'm thinking of refurbishing my stairs by painting them completely and adding either a runner or stair mats. I also have a half landing that currently has floor boards. The idea is to paint all of the stairs and the bullnoses of the half landing and replace the floorboards...
I have put a small amount of parquet flooring down for the first time.
It looks really nice, but annoyingly has a few small gaps around where the border and other pieces meet.
What is the best way to fill these gaps so it is not noticable?
I am reading that mixing sawdust with PVA is a big...
Hi we are having our house renovated and installing an overboard underfloor heating system (wet).
we wanted to install an engineered wood herringbone system however getting massively conflicting advice on it all - from the suppliers of the underfloor heating & the floor suppliers/installers...
I need to lay engineered board on top of concrete which is over old foundations. It's a strip about 500mm wide, then a step to one side and the original timber flooring on the other. The majority of it is very old concrete, some more recent where a wall was recently demolished and levelled...
I'd like to insulate my (concrete) garage floor. It's single skinned so I will seal the concrete (1st coat sealant, 2nd coat sealant + SBR). I will then use tanking slurry on the walls (1st coat slurry + SBR, 2nd coat just slurry). I expect a little slurry left over so I will use that to re-coat...
Hi
I'm about to start laying 6mm ply over existing floorboards, fixing with 20mm screws. As its in 1 half ofa new extension there's smallish areas where cement or concrete has been used to level where the old external wall used to be. I dont think it's screed as the new built floor is still due...
