ive measured mine to be out 10% at all speeds upto 110mph...give or take a fraction. i regularly set my cruise at 80 on the motorway and pass cop cars...ive only been pulled once. when i started droning on about the above, the copper got a very glazed and uninterested look and sent me on my way.
I think anything over 100 and the speedometer goes way out. Its the whole calibration thing I think.
Before I de limited my car, it would never go over 172 mph but on the GPS it was reading an accurate 160mph
I wonder if the performance figures some of these supercar manufacturers give out are speedo based or gps based?

However, as speedo's are not calibrated and all vary slightly, to have zero tolerance would be a bad move. The 10% is there to allow for this.
Whether forces add any extra on or not seems to be discretionary.
My sat-nav tells me that at an indicated 30mph in my van, I'm actually doing (sat-nav accuracy here) 26mph.
An indicated 50mph is shown as 44mph on the sat-nav.
An indicated 74mph (my vehicle is limited) shows on the sat-nav as 69mph.
That's odd. The first two are approx 15% higher, and the last half that.
Must check my speedo again!
