Although not safe to touch in every 'emergency switching' situations, one might feel that there is no need for other means of isolation if there is an easily accessible plug that can be pulled out - after all a plug/socket is the most foolproof method of isolating, if not emergency switching! As neither a shower switch nor cooker switch, nor any other switch is required (by the regulations) for local isolation, they may be deemed useful and/or advisable for emergency switching. As such, it would seem logical to fit such switches for every appliance - or none - or are some appliances considered more dangerous than others?
That's true in virtually all walks of life - human beings are creatures of habit with little desire for change! Is there some fundamental reason why we have mint sauce (rather than something else) with lamb? .. and the "if it's not broken, don't try to mend it" view often has a lot to commend it!It's strange how some things become standard or traditional for no actual reason.
Kind Regards, John
