Adding a socket

Hi I'm adding a double socket and piggybacking off the 13amp fuse spur

Am i right in thinking the new brown and blue wires go in
L out (brown)
N out (blue)

what is the thin copper exposed wire?

Live. Neutral and earth.
That's 3 wires.
Please take this as my concern...
I'm worried about you messaging with that if you are unaware of this fact.
Get a electrician to wire up.

That's how it's been since the house was built I haven't touched anything

Somebody has, there are new and old versions of the wiring colours present.

That brown, grey, black, looks like it is probably a three core armoured cable, feeding something? So the black is probably correctly connected, but should have been fitted with green/yellow sleaving.

Well I've had no joy connected up the additional wiring to L out and N out and tripped the whole house.

Could the tripping be a wire? It works fine until I close the spur up so I'm thinking maybe something loose?

You are probably catching something with the 3.5mm fixing pins

Some of the copper conductors are sticking out from the terminals ,there should be no visible copper.
The red wire is hanging out of its terminal.
You shouldn't unscrew the switch plate from the mounting box with the power on either !

I'll have another look tomorrow it's too dark now, I've switched the fuse off for the garage.

I'll trim them tomorrow it's hard to get the right length with such little space I don't know how sparkies do it.

It was the only way I could see if it was working before screwing in. I think it's a loose wire as the lights flicker. I've turned it off at the fuse on the main board until tomorrow then I'll recheck the wires

Well it probably would be - it's 3 core SWA cable.

That wiring is AWFUL. Too much exposed copper, which would certainly cause the wiring to short circuit.
