BBQ food is disgusting. Why traipse round to someone's BBQ to be served burnt high-fat, obnoxious-smelling c**p shared with flies?

most BBQ food is i agree disgusting. I sure we've all been to many a BBQ serving charcoal on the outside pink on the inside chicken, cheap nasty burgers, carp sausages etc.

The key is as always buy quality ingredients, and here's the real secret, cook it slowly and not at ridiculously high temperatures. That way it all cooked, not burnt in any way shape or form, not carcinogenic (that's the burnt bit), instead of burgers, try fish or prawns or crayfish.......

whats wrong with you people...

Me personally? Well I have got a bit of a headache this morning, I think it might have something to do with the cider I was knocking back last night.. :?

I started making my own cider last year. Only managed to make 4 bottles, a test run which worked out nicely but Ive only been able to drink a few glasses as it gets shared out amongst guests usually at BBQ's. Planning to make much more this year and then get caned on a bottle or two of it next year just to see if it gives me a hangover or not. No chemicals in it or sulphites/powders or sugar, just fermented apple juice.

Can you name something that doesn't have at least a marginal carcinogenic risk attached to it?

Lettuce :?: :?:

It may not make you live any longer but by gum, it will feel like you have...

As the others have said decent quality meat, I'm lucky, I have a number of very good butchers near me who can trace their meat back to the farm.... Mainly because they know the farmer personally.... I love lamb chops marinaded in a little honey, mint and rosmary for a couple of days...

The only processed meat are the butchers own sausages, they drip little or no fat.. My beloved does a wonerful "Russian" Salad which is the only salad that a salad dodger like me will eat.... Instead of the horrid soggy burger buns, how about chiabatta bread drizzled with olive oil infused with herbs or chilli and find a good recipe for Sangria. Purple potatoes always add a bit of colour done as normal spuds in foil and in the embers but a nice mix of sour cream mixed with herbs (From the pots in my garden) makes the spuds lovely..... The beloved also makes super roasd veg, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onion quarters done in goos fat with whole garlic cloves, rosmary, salt and pepper (She does these in the oven).....

I love Margaritas and they are delightfully simple to make, one third Tequila, one third lime juice, one third Triple Sec (Cointreau to the likes of you and I), shaken with crushed ice and served.... Or a good quality Vodka for later chilled in the freezer to minus 20 and served with frozen after eight mints....Mint in the mouth, shot of vodka in the mouth...At the same time (freezing the vodka makes it slightly syrupy and smooth on the throat) Russian Standard is very good.... So is Chase.

Long way to come for a bottle of cider mate.

My cider is quite sour, Ive got about half a dozen apple trees and they grow these red apples mostly for cooking, a couple grow sweeter greener apples with a bit of red must be some local variety. On the road between our village and the next there must be about 100-200 apple trees lining it, the apples are much sweeter and the locals usually take a car and trailer and potato sacks and fill up. Didnt have time last year but this year plan to grab a ****load and make loads of cider.

The Czech republic is famous for it's excellent beer. Do Czechs drink cider? I've never seen it in any of the many boozers that I have visited whilst there on hol.

They dont drink cider really. Mostly use plums for the slivovice. Some use apples for Kalvados but thats traditionally a Spanish drink. Beer, slivovice and wine are the traditional drinks here.

If we're going that far, I may need something with a little more pulling power, especially if 2 up. Will have to see if the C90 8) can be brought back to life.

Seriously though, if you want a short break without breaking the bank, Prague is the place. Easyjet from Lulsgate, cheap hotels, the best beer for £1 for .5 litre, great restaurants and a fascinating city. If I could speak the lingo, and persuade Mrs WS, I would emigrate.

ZX14 all the way, although i was stopped from buying one for my own safety.
