Bending Schedules

My builder is saying that the bending details for the reinforced wall needs to be done by our architect and the architect is saying the opposite.

Any idea who is correct would be appreciated my gut feel is the person who designs the wall should do this and the builder is then reaponsible to put the steels in correctly - any views?????

It is always the Architect who has to be responsible for any adjustments ,alterations,add ons etc to any,any original building specs to the original drawing,your architect must be a fake obviously saying it is the builders responsibility he should know by now,most builders especialy contractual firms are not trusted to be given a Lego set, as Terry Thomas might say "contractors ,they are an absolute shower of w*****s,so be very careful here.

Usually the SE would do the schedule as part of their design process.

Philr123 Good evening.

Your builder is correct, Your " Architect" is well astray, in who does what on the so called Professional side of the building process.

Professional side meaning a Structural Engineer, a Quantity Surveyor, and finally the Architect.

What is supposed to happen is that the Architect discusses the proposals and plans with you setting up dimensions and overall concept. The QS. works out what it will cost, finally if there are any load bearing / supporting structures the Structural Engineer is the only professional that is "Competent and Qualified" to make the design decisions, that includes the numerous calculations surrounding concrete and what the Reinforcing should be.

The Architect is simply NOT qualified or competent to make this type of decision.

I doubt very much that an Architect has the competence to design a reinforced wall.

But the wall designer designs, and the builder builds the design only.

Architect draws pretty picture. SE designs wall. Builder builds wall to SE design.

Thanks for the responses the Architects also have a Structural Design arm so have the expertise and competence to do this and we thought we were getting everything needed for the builder to build as per Jed response!
