Lisa, how can you be ripped off when you have yert to pay a plumber, Surely you have yet to contact a plumber, agree a price and the pay for the work to be done at the agreed price. Fail to see how that is being ripped off.

I, as an installer was ripped off a while ago. Told the woman the cost of doing the job, Job done for that price, receipt issued for cheque payment. Same cheque later stopped because the woman said I had ripped her off.

I have yet to visit/service a Potterton/Baxi/Main band B boiler that has ever had a drop of condensate in the trap

You need to learn how to install them

they must produce it cos most seem to leak from the nasty plastic weld around the botttom of the trap.

Top of the trap snaps off as well

As you may have gathered from the posts, the old adage "buy cheap, get cheap" applies to both boilers and the people that install them.
You can gamble of course, but chances are that getting a cheap boiler and have it installed by the lowest bidder will get you a lemon.

city plumbing have had the Halstead Eden and the Ferroli combi's on offer for £510 plus Vat if that helps
fitted a couple of halsteads and they seem ok.

it is a criminal offence to stop a cheque contact the police and get her done!

Nothing laughable about it; not quite sure if it qualifies as fraud, embezzlement or something else, but it certainly is illegal to cancel a cheque and keep the goods.

As you rightly say, you're 'not quite sure'.

If you read Kevindgas's post again carefully, you will see that he quite clearly stated that it is a criminal offence to stop a cheque.

I laughed, because it is clearly nonsense to say this. Try going to the station to report it. See how far you get.

Anyhow, it will be a civil case, not a criminal one if witholding payment results in litigation.

I will not charge for this legal advice.
