Is there a general combi boiler brand which is considered best value for money?

Why didn't I think of a fan and blow all those rockwool particles around the place....many of us where a 1/2 face respirator and it's no fun in the summer.

get googling again , loft doesnt need to be boarded out, just a permanent walkway to the boiler and a safe working space around the boiler, why are you on a plumbing and heating site, trying to be a smart erse, there are plenty of car sites , or are you scared they will call you out for the wee clown that you are

That’s what I have, a boarded out loft with space around my boiler and that was in reply to fibres being blown around. They’d certainly be blown around with just a walkway. Anyway, what’s a smart erse?

Take a look at your list - it sounds like the sort of thing a mischevious schoolboy writes on the blackboard when the teacher's out of the room. What's the justification for such language?

You said in one of your posts, that you were considering replacing your present boiler with an Intergas - later on in the post you your actual words were :- "By the way, Intergas also do a budget boiler which I've heard great things about" ......

.......... but now you can't find enough abuse to throw at them.

Of Baxi you said .... One of the best things about Baxi is that they react to feedback and have improved the latest model. The latest model is £550 and has a stainless steel heat ex and all brass diverter + they've increased the warranty.. so you wouldn't even get the problems I had. A steal at £550. By the way this boiler is the same under the hood as the Baxi 800 (which costs 1K+) ...........

Yes, I've heard great things about the IG Rapid.. but customer service is important and so are cost of parts. I'd steer clear of IG until the dust settles with Rheem

I actually am a big fan of baxi (I own one).. I thought they were British but could be wrong

By the way I'm not an installer or a professional.. I've just heard those slang terms slung around by pros on this forum. They also have a slang term for customers.. but I wont tell you that lest you fail to see the joke!

To be honest with you I think all boilers are good.. longevity is down to how well they are looked after IMO and having a clean system.

Most boilers are a good compromise. A few are not a good compromise.

For me a decent boiler has to have the following:
- Minimal plastic bits. The less plastic bits the better. Copper/Brass = good
- Stainless steel heat ex (alloy heat exchangers are more prone to failure - aka aluminium heat ex's)
- Easily accessible service parts (e.g. Expansion Vessel and Diverter Valve)
- Top of the range pump (e.g. grundfuss branded)
- High quality fan
- Affordable and accessible parts

Nice to haves
- Accurate self diagnostics (i.e. error reporting)
- Open therm compatibility
- 22 mm gas inlet
- a decent wall mounting jig with the connectors pre fitted.
- Excellent installation and servicing instructions
- Low budget price
- Quiet
- Made in Britain

Things I don't care much about:
- Warranty period
- Platinum installers who charge an arm and a leg + Installers charging £1000 per day labour rate
- Power flushing a clean system
- ERP Compliance and EU Laws (go brexit!)
