"an afternoon of "patriotic" partying on deck, when large amounts of alcohol were consumed."

I wonder what that means?

Took the in laws on a Saga cruise from Dover, on departure there was a party on the stern, everyone was given Union Jacks to wave while the band played Dambusters & 633 Squadron, while we were buzzed by a Spitfire & Hurricane , enjoyed the aerobatics but not the nonsense on deck

Sounds like a rehearsal for the sailing of the Brexitanic!

Yeah, we’ve been on a few P&O cruises and they normally have a 'sail away' party when leaving ports which includes the flags and music. They are stricter with the dress code on formal nights than most of the other cruise lines where evening dress to some American guests means a clean basketball kit! Mind you, you can spot a Sherman a mile away at dinner because for some weird reason they tend to only use a fork to eat with, no matter what the meal.

Regarding the wearing of fancy dress, which is what apparently started the brawl, P&O have had this on their website for some time now:

Fancy Dress
“We don’t want to dampen anyone’s fun but coming into effect on 1st January 2018, fancy dress and/or novelty clothing will not be permitted on board. We reserve the right to deny embarkation to guests who are inappropriately dressed."

Personalised and Slogan Clothing
“In addition to the fancy dress policy, clothing personalised with images/slogans, and/or clothing that features offensive language, images or slogans, will not be allowed on board at all times."

So, ellal would be turfed out the minute he turned up with his B OLLOX TO BREXIT! T-shirt on and quite right too.

Essex people - well the ship does look like a tower block on it's side.

To be fair if you want to take elderly family on holiday SAGA takes some beating, door to door transport, flat rate insurance, adapted cabins and good organisation

I really couldnt do a cruise. Stuck on a boat with a load of **** heads for 7 days my worst nightmare fck that!
It’s very rare to witness that unless you go on one of the weekend 'taster' or booze cruises. Mainly, you rarely see the same people twice unless you choose to go on a permanent table and dine with the same people at the same table at the same time every night - fixed dining. We always go freedom dining where you can turn up at any time and get a table for two. There’s plenty to do and see with cabaret shows, theatre, casinos, movies, swimming pools, gym, sauna, spa, speciality dining options etc etc and the scenery is always changing. On a typical 7 night cruise you’ll stop for a day in at least 4 different places - sometimes different countries - and you have the option of getting off for a look around or go on one of the numerous excursions. I, on the other hand, could never go on a package to a resort where you never go outside the gates for the duration of your stay but some people just love it. Takes all sorts I suppose.
