Ice blocks the flow of cold air through the ducts.
Have you seen any evidence that the blockage has gone?
Maybe it hasn't melted yet. Or maybe it is draining somewhere you can't see. Frost free freezers drain the melt water out through a gutter and pipe usually round the back where it can evaporate from the heat of the motor,
