Here’s Priti Patel promising that the last piece of cruel, anti-migrant legislation - which went on UK statute books less than a year ago - would definitely, definitely stop the boats.
The Tories are performative they know their voting public are angry and uninformed and that's how they will keep them.

Owen Paterson stepped down from the U.K. parliament last year after a House of Commons probe found he broke its rules on paid lobbying. He has now lodged a complaint with the ECHR claiming that the investigation breached his right to a private life under the Convention’s Article 8.
Bit of history
The UK government also wanted to limit individuals’ ability to go to the European Court of Human Rights to complain about rights violations. Eventually it was agreed that states could decide whether or not give individuals the right to complain to the Court and whether or not to accept the Court’s jurisdiction. (These choices were set out in ‘optional clauses’ which states could choose to accept or not).

Lord Layton stated: “the right of individual petition is perhaps the most fundamental”. Eventually, in 1966, the UK accepted the optional clauses. In 1998, Protocol 11 to the Convention made the right of individual petition compulsory.
