Climate Change

Apart from all the scientists who have a vested interest in the fossil fuel industry.
Which is coincidentally all of the ones who go against the grain, so I'm told.
Most of them get the sack too, which is nice.
Climate change misinformation often does lead back to oil industry funded sources….in this country GBnews and Reform party.

You are trying to interpret reality as conspiracy theory.

By the way phrases like: “so I’m told” “most of them” aren’t evidence.

He is asking good technical questions, though, IMO.

It is hard to envisage how such tiny amounts of CO2 can have such a big effect.

Climate science gets really complex. How many people really understand this diagram:

Methane is even worse at even lower %.
It's all down to the angled bonds in the molecule, and how they resonate.
H2O is also a greenhouse gas. Fortunately not a vey good one.

Quite the opposite over the past 25 million years the planet has alternated between glacial–interglacial periods. If it were not for our green house gas contribution the planet would be slowly cooling, possibly heading towards another ice age in a 100,000 years time
Nope - we are actually overdue for an ice age

I thought the next one was due in about ten thousand years time.

Googling seems to back me up.

Why so scared of global warming you only ever hear scaremongering
Even in recorded history it shows how the warmer times led to great prosperity and innovation, the medieval warm period allowed for longer growing seasons agricultural surpluses and population growth which in turn supported cultural achievements like the building of Gothic cathedrals and the rise of universities trade expanded cities flourished and societies had the resources to invest in art philosophy and technology. In contrast colder periods were often disastrous the little ice age brought shorter growing seasons failed harvests and famine, europe was struck by the great famine of 1315 during which millions starved due to relentless cold societal unrest grew economies shrank and in many regions innovation stalled cold harsh climates didn't just make life harder they made Civilization more fragile. Global warming is good for humanity, maybe that is why they are trying to stop it.

We could use CO2 to prevent the next Ice Age. But that is a long way off.

The point about the Medieval Warm Period is a good one. I think the answer is that was a regional event and was balanced by the rest of the earth being colder. Also, it was probably only 1.5C maximum. Northern Europe can handle that level of change. But a global 3C rise, especially in areas more vulnerable to climate change, is predicted to be disastrous.

Some will loose some will gain, its not just the medieval warm period - it is a pattern throughout mankinds history - it has flourished in warmer times and close to extinction in colder.

I like to hear other opinions personally, I don't just pass things up as rubbish. Everyone has their own take on things and I find it interesting hearing the opposit beliefs of others. Some good points raised in this debate so far, Pete actually came up with, he wonders if global warming would have occurred without us causing it or being blamed for it.
Wonders... Exactly.
There are people who think that global warming would've not happened without us...
Total speculation.
You can simply say the opposite and, as we can't change the past, we're all correct or all wrong in our speculations.
Almost certainly but likely not as rapidly, it wouldn't be "man-made", and it would be inevitable.

The thing with ACC, it could be slowed, stopped, or even reversed, if we wanted to.
Exactly as above.
Total speculation narrated as the absolute truth without any evidence whatsoever.
And before anyone starts throwing stats, numbers, clouds, unicorns and rainbows about, be aware of one thing: we are here and nobody can say what would've happened if we weren't.
Unless you like to speculate.

You may be right. But you only really seem to be thinking about what is good for Europe.

Barack Obama doesn’t seem too bothered about sea level rising, but I suppose he has enough money to loose but its odd that banks will still give you a mortgage on a seafront property unless it is an erosion area. - so they do not seem bothered about it either.
