Climate Change

just been trying to compile some numbers since the start
COP 1 in 1995 hade 3,900
COP1 to COP10 averaged 5,000 participants
the famous Paris CO21 in 2015 (the one I thought the world had finally woken up to reality) 30,000
38,000 attended Glasgow in 2021
then a totally insane 100,000 went to Dubai for cop28
and 56,000 for this one in Brazil

WTF are they all doing ?
Feel scammed yet.
We are paying our tax to send over 200 from the UK.

not really understanding this question

from what I gather it was 50,000 different people attended.
I did wonder if it was some daily accumulative total, for instance 2500 per day for 20 days (so an individual could count as 20)
but, NO, the 50k is individual registrations

please do check this as i feel the numbers are so astonishing that there has to be a simpler explanation
the numbers are just silly
This site has the breakdown of how the numbers are worked out

Seriously, do you think you can slow or stop climate change???
Do you have any idea of what would happen if you managed to stop climate change???

Seriously, do you think we'll be burning fossil fuels forever?
The next millennium?
Century?
Decade?

At some point, even the most rabid will say "of course not!", so the argument is only of when, rather than if.

i think there is enough for the rest of the century or two, certainly enough to entirely change the climate and cause utter chaos, possibly make it semi uninhabital

luckily, wind and solar are looking cheaper so we may start using that instead ? although don't count on it, far too sensible. But even if we did stop burning fossil fuels we would find some other way to self destruct, we will probably go down as the most unsuccessful species of all time.

No, I don't think we'll be burning as much fossil fuel as we do now in 100 years.
Not because we'll run out, we won't, but because alternatives will be used.
Hopefully nuclear fusion, but with politicians always trying to fill their pockets with our money, I won't bet on it.

BTW, you haven't answered my questions.

I agree that it is not a case of running out.

I didn't answer your questions because they were loaded, daft, or both.

Seriously, do you think you can slow or stop climate change???

If you meant "humanity" and the "anthropogenic" part of "anthropogenic climate change", I believe that we can.

Climate will always change.

Climate changing through human activity can be stopped.

of course it is possible, we could have started to halt it 30+ years ago when it became beyond doubt the changes we were making to our atmoshere would cause long term problems.
But there is some hope, solar and wind are stating to become more cost effective than oil and gas, and since we always follow the money, we may just start using that instead. We won't be doing it for the good of future generations or the health of out atmosphere, it will only happen through greed, politicians can never see more than a few years ahead.

"it will only happen through greed"

so true

That's the key point.
Now, you should start looking at how they measure climate change and how the same people who measure it are making money out of the "solution".
man has caused global warming over last 200 years

thats a settled matter

so stop whining for once in yer life

I have to completely disagree with you on this.

It is not "the key point", any more than you're going to die anyway, so may as well smoke, drink and slob around and never seek medical attention for anything that doesn't feel right.

It is also not "the key point", as the people who are currently selling us the non-renewables are making money by the shipload. And have been doing so for a century or more.

climate change deniers always look to nuclear fusion

nuclear fusion has always remained 30 years away...in a hundred years time itll be just 30 years away

In 30 yrs time, the naysayers will mostly be irrelevant or dead so, if we haven't extincted ourselves by then, humanity will be fully on renewables anyway.

Regardless of whether fusion is a goer or not.
