customer wants me to rip out old gas boiler and replace with cylinder and leccy flow boiler, the spark i use is being real slow about getting back to me..

basically the spec is 1x3kw immersion and 1x12kw flow boiler.

i just want to know how feasible it is to add this kind of draw to this consumer unit and roughly whats involved.

there is existing spur for the immersion which i can use, and a spur (3a) for the controls/pump

A lot will depend on what size the supply to the CU is.

As there's no cutout next to the CU, I'm guessing it's a submains CU possibly in a flat?

The load you are wanting to supply is just over 65A, and submains quite often only have a 60A capacity, so it might not be feasible without some possibly quite expensive upgrading of the supply.

Have you told your customer they are nuts to even consider heating with electric when there's gas available?

Again it depends on whats already in place. If the DNO supply is only 60A then you're looking around the £1000's sort of money to have their supply upgraded, and then you may still need to replace the cable from the meter to the CU position, which is impossible to price with out knowing how long and easy or difficult the run is.

her logic was, worried about installing a new gas boiler on an outside wall in the bedroom in case GS makes a new law about boilers in bedrooms, i've told her many times it wont happen.

...in case GS makes a new law ......

I know the Gas boys tend to be a law unto themselves, but I though Parliment made the laws in this country......

as others have said .... a 12kW boiler running on peak rate at roughly 15p/kWh .......... assuming it 'fires' for 50% of half of the day = 6 hours x 12kW x 15p = approx £11 per DAY in leccy!!!! ( = approx £1000 per quarter)

semantics, cute. was just dumbing it down, this is sparky land after all.

this lady seems pretty set in her ways, she wants a quote so thats what I'll do, but i'll also quote her for a gas boiler as well,

thanks for the help chaps.

It won't.

But I wouldn't want a boiler in my bedroom. New or old.
