Consumer Unit Height (Guidance or Punishment by Death)

There will also be a second CU feeding a planned HP and Solar setup.
As the existing is being replaced, is there some reason why it won't all be put in one larger CU?

Or did the solar slingers insist that it has to be done that way?

Define "readily"?
Good question. As you may have noticed, earlier today, totally co-incidentally, I posted this, which I found in the datasheet of a Greenbrook connector (which had screwed terminals) ...

... and I'm not sure what that means, either :-)

I have to say that, in terms of existing domestic buildings, in my experience 1350mm-1450mm would be fairly unusual - all of those I can think of (e.g. amongst the homes of 'friends and family') are either above or below that height.

Yup - the top edge of mine is at 1310mm

Who knows. However, in parts of the UK I know, we don't really have "kitchen presses"
You do, but in the parts you know, people commonly say "cupboard"

I say "cabinet"

As said, the approved docs are guidance only.
As are the wiring regs really.

You need to apply a bit of uncommon-sense .

It used to be common to put such as consumer units in some pretty silly places to ge out of the way such as low down in not very accessible cupboards or high near the ceiling where a little old lady balancing on a chair to change a fuse or reset a breaker might break her neck when falling off.

You might be required by a bloke in a wig whilst you are gripping the rail to explain yourself.

So to put it in a recommended sort of place for all expected rightful users might be a helpful goal.

In a purely works environment then in a place tgat makes it less accessable to unauthorised users might or might not be a consideration and of course even in a house you might want to deter very young children anyway .

So the guidance in Part M might be good starting point but for folk in a wheelchair you might have to tweek that too.

And of course, some folk do not like to see them, even though they might be in a sensible place. Same can be said of sockets and switches too!

The utter NONSENSE with Part M is that the height is perfect for young children to fiddle with.
Building control officer told me that I had to put a lock on a cu that was at a height of 126cm otherwise children will play with it.

As the existing is being replaced, is there some reason why it won't all be put in one larger CU?

Solar is in the planning stage, but yes, they insist on a seperate CU.
