Because the list of 'symptoms' is now so long it also covers virtually every illness know to humankind!

It would be interesting to hear whether your friend's hospital admission turns out to actually be because of the 'virus' or caused by some other underlying problem...

I say that because I know an alcoholic who has problems breathing - it is a classic symptom.
And alcoholism degrades the immune system leading to susceptibility to other illnesses.

Omicron doesn't leave much natural immunity. The vaccines do have some effect to protect you from it, but there's a lot of people catching nearly back to back Omicron infections.

He's not an alcoholic. Doesn't drink and drive, for example. When his wife's driving he enjoys it.

From what I've read it rather more nuanced. Almost any prior exposure, through jab or infection, giving protection against "more serious effects".
Early on it was found in the lab that Omicron gave really good protection against serious effects from Delta, for eg.

A bit like the way we easily catch a new strain of flu but it doesn't usually kill us, whereas it could wipe out a community on some island which had never seen flu.

There are several articles using the term "hybrid immunity".

Nothing. Vaccines rarely do. But it DID cut down on hospitalisation admissions and deaths so by default it prevented those things happening for a great number of people.
