An unrelated forum I use has a section in the members profile which lists all previous display name ID’s & date of change; it doesn’t (seem to) allow multiple ID’s though but I’m sure there is a way around it for the determined.

Can’t see the point really except for a bit of forum baiting or to wind up the unsuspecting; at least it’s a harmless way of getting your ‘jollies’ I suppose!

Trazor: Esra_ptrap is quite correct, all demographic information held by websites during registration is subject to the terms of the data protection act as the act does not differentiate between real/fictitious information.

Using this information to identify idividuals (assuming it were possible to do so from the information held) would be a breach under the act and the site owners could face legal action.

That was my understanding of his post. If that's the case, where's the harm in that? It's not like it identifies anyone. (assuming they don't have their e-mail addresses in their profile that is)
