I figure that Joe may be ill, or at least have had a neglected or abused type upbringing? I don't know i'm guessing, but he exhibits all the traits of someone desperate for attention. And finds the quickest way to get his fix is to insult, bait, wind-up, play devil's advocate etc etc.

And i. along with many, keep falling into his trap.

So how do you defeat Joe the self-confessed "5 star general" of internet forums (is that general as in average or boring?)?
The only way is not to feed him, to starve him of your reaction. No need to press any ignore buttons, but just don't respond to any of his comments... eventually he will implode in a 'Dr Who' style demise of a fictional villain.
