At the risk of being bombarded by H & S is it possible to remove the inline control switch on a blanket and continue using please

I really wouldn't be messing with one myself but you could remove it and choc block or crimp the cables, however I wouldn't want this potential fire hazard in my house!

What are your reasons for wanting to do this? There may be a better solution.

NO

DO NOT attempt it........ A fire brigade "black museum" has a photo of a bed with a blanket that had the contol bypassed. the person died from burns, the burns followed the pattern of the wire.

That may not happen with modern blankets but the risk isn't worth it.

If you do I hope the local fire station isn't too far away....

From an insurance point of view I'd suspect you wouldn't get a payout either.

Thanks to all, I really suspected as much. It started flashing and not heating up (the red light...not the blanket !)

is it a dreamland one ?

I replaced the controller with an inline light switch. (as someone else had done it on the net). It works, but ovbiously runs full power and they get hot.

Imtec will do you a discount on a new one if you tell them the red lights flashing.

Scrap it.

If an electric blanket is damaged in any way, its useless and must be disposed of. Same applies if it's more than 10 years old or has any signs of wear.

There is no realistic way of repairing them, and if you must use such things they are cheap to replace anyway.

Yes, it is Dreamland. Surely if I am prepared to realise it is running on full power all it needs is to by-bass the regulator ? This is used only to heat up prior to sleeping, never slept on. As to needing one, this is a 100 year old cottage !

The regulator is a safety device.

By removing the regulator, you are removing any protection it has against overheating and melting / causing a fire / injuring people / etc.
