Main Vauxhall dealer did an oil change on my 57 plate Vectra, but used incorrect oil (10w 40), instead of fully synthetic 5w 30. They have now changed it to correct oil, but suggested the only way to check for any damage or engine wear is to take engine apart and rebuild. Can anyone give any advice on whether this is worthwhile and if done will it get put back together in same way as when new, or should i just leave it as is?

Leave well alone mate....10/40 oil is generally good enough for most applications, and certainly doesn't merit pulling the engine apart just to inspect damage which may, or may not, be apparent.

i would kick up a stink big styly and see what they offer you in compensation.couple of free services etc. ;)
typical of the big boys expecting you to just walk away and they do nothing.

Thanks for the replies and advice - Going to see Vauxhall later this week, so will get them to sort out the problem.
