Ever Wonder What I do?

How to move 19 tonne of cable
I guess I must be missing something here. If that rather fun bit of kit was able to negotiate the route (albeit necessarily at walking speed!), why couldn't a conventional lorry?

Kind Regards, John

A very narrow humpback bridge
Ah, right - yes I saw that bridge (and wondered how it was going to cope with 19 tonnes!). However, I thought that if that toy could squeeze over, so could a 'narrow lorry'. I guess you folks must have got your tape measure out and proved me wrong :-)

Kind Regards, John

And some - that transporter must weigh a bit.

Good job it could take it, although it must in theory be seriously over-engineered if it could.

Has got to be one of the coolest remote control toys ever.

so could a 'narrow lorry'.
I doubt that a conventional lorry could have been controlled so precisely.

I couldn't get the video to play on the ITV link but I could get it to play by grabbing the video ID from the page source and putting it into the vimeo site (it seems ITV use vimeo)

Note that the transporter had a lot of wheels, so while the total weight was high it was presmuamblly a lot more spread out than on a regular vehicle. It was also the only vehicle on the bridge at the time.

The cable under the lake developed a fault and went bang. They had fun and games trying to route a new cable along the valley trying to avoid running one along the lake bed again but I believe the rock was too hard hence they had to run the new one along the lake bed too.

What is the reason for the supply coming all the way from Seascale Westie? There's what appears to be a nice big sub station about 1 mile south of the turn off at Holmrook which would be a fair bit of a shorter distance.
