"Environment secretary Thérèse Coffey told the House of Commons on Thursday that retailers had told her the shortages were expected to last two to four weeks. “It’s important to make sure that we cherish the specialisms that we have in this country,” she said. “A lot of people would be eating turnips right now, rather than thinking necessarily about . . . lettuce and tomatoes.”

It's usually considered impolite to mention that the number of Brexers is dropping because they are mostly old.
Hoorah!

Voter renewal is the inevitable way to go (y)
If it is just the 'olds' that are wanting/were voting for Brexit, surely with an aging population any further referendums will just increase the percentage of those that wish for the U.K. to remain separate from Europe unless they can all be convinced by the whining minority? Nah, it’ll never happen and Ellal will go up in smoke never having fulfilled its wet dream to couple with its blessed Europe once again. <snigger>

Been no eggs in our Tesco for days.
Are you suggesting that the Tesco hens have the hump over Brexit and are on a laying strike? Can't be unless the United States have had a Brexit from Europe too. It’s all down to avian flu and rising costs. The supermarkets are unwilling to pay a fair price to farmers for eggs.

"The UK egg drought never quite reached pandemic pasta proportions, but rationing was widespread through November and supply has not wholly recovered. The United States is now in the grip of acute shortages, with 60% year-on-year price rises, a dozen eggs reportedly reaching $18."

Unlucky. Try your local corner shop, they'll have plenty. (y)

Supermarkets are price gouging, privatised energy companies are ripping us off.

but then you vote for Tory free market libertarianism, so you’ve got what you voted for.

And Brexit is impacting egg production……you voted to get rid of FOM, so it’s no surprise UKfarming has Labour shortages across all sectors.

UK energy is highest in Europe oops

Hello, what's this?
Hindsight. Your favourite. You need to try foresight now and again. Obviously based on you lot constantly moaning that we were all not better off the day after Brexit. I told you, it’ll take time!

Ah, so the hens are still laying but we don’t have any exploited europeans to pick them up. Riiiidht.

Surely you mean 'Hurrah'?

Time will make no difference.

brexit red tape, ie trade barriers will continue to negatively impact our economy until such time they are reduced by rebuilding a closer relationship with our biggest trade partner.

Wait and see. Trade overcomes everything. I still got my Spanish tomatoes and chillies during the 'shortage' yesterday didn’t I? I thought there was too much paperwork and lorry hold-ups to get fresh fruit and veg across the channel before it rotted in the back of the truck? What went wrong there?

I presume you support Mick Lynch head of the RMT Union fighting for better pay and conditions ( don’t bother with the pathetic train drivers excuse, RMT doesn’t represent them)

as you seem to be complaining British business exploits workers

Come on Mottie, you say you voted Brexit for better pay and conditions, well that’s what unions fight for.
