as for flying rats sorry pidgeons the best thing i want to feed them is Bicarbonate of soda and then watch them explode

Paracetemol is my choice.

In winter fat balls are exactly what a bird needs. In large quantities it would be bad.
Squirrel body count at 27 at the mo.

Not if you soak it in water first as the expansion takes place before the little tweeters eat it.

As for swelling up inside birds - so do seeds. But birds have a crop that stores the food until they properly swallow it.

I have been putting out a mixture of bread,seeds ,bacon rind ,rice crispies and some jacobs crackers and some cheese......but what I have noticed is that the crackers and cheese go first (fussy birds) maybe instead of water I will put out some wine!!

Peanuts most certainly should go in a feeder so that the birds have to peck at them. If they're lying loose, a bird could try and eat a whole one and choke (and I am a sad sod having been on the RSPB web site!)
